    HELP!!!!, Please.

My two male cats, about a year old, have been peeing all over my apartment. I thought maybe it was because they dont lik e to be left alone. But im not sure. I work and my girlfriend stays home and is with them almost all day. She cleans thier box every 2 or 3 days, she feeds them everyday, she even plays with them and they are mine.... she takes care of them. Anyway, w find theat they only really pee when they are left alone. So i said "ok I will leave the t.v on for them, maybe if that is what it is they will stop." So we come home today and find piss in my dish drainer. So as i write this my g/f is cleaning the drainer. Now I got them from my mom in April. They started out fine, and just started peeing. So for a little while we were thinking of getting rid of them. We weregoing to let them outside, cuz if they go to the shelter, they would get killed if no one took them and we all know that most people like kittens. So i was going to let them outside by a field so they were away from traffic. But then all of a sudden they stoped peeing all over. and just a few days ago they started again. i have an appointment to get them "fixed" at the end of August, which is the earliest i can get them to the vet. If anyone has any ideas please let me know!!!!!!!

The first thing you need to do is take them to the vet to rule out a Urinary Tract Infection. Cats usually don't do what yours are doing unless there's a problem

One rule of thumb is one litterbox PER CAT. I would advise getting another litterbox.

Get them fixed ASAP. That will also stop the improper urinating. You're also going to need to get a black light and search for the spots they've been peeing in. This way you can get rid of the odor so they don't continue.

    Good luck.

You might also consider cleaning the box every day. Some cats won't use a "used" litter box. Others like a different box for each type of "output."

I agree, have at least two litterboxes, clean them everyday and get your cats fixed ASAP. The longer you wait, the more they will keep this behavior, even after being fixed. Don't wait!

I understand you are really upset, but please, consider every other possibility than letting them outside! It could just be that they have a urinary tract infection, or that one box is not enough for them both!!

It is suggested to have 1 more box than cats. Sometimes that is not possible but you really do need atleast 2 boxes for 2 cats. Also please don't let them outside. For one thing they are unneutered which means they can add to the uncontrolled reproduction of unaltered outdoor pets. Two, there are soooo many nasty things that can happen to them including diseases such as Felv and FIV 2 big ones not including the dangers of poisening, cars etc. Please the first thing is get your boys neutered. If neuter cost is an issue try one of your local shelters as they sometimes have clinics for spay/neuter and it is much cheaper. Please keep us posted.

Peeing is often a way to mark territory...especially in unfixed males. Since they started and then stoppen once, it probably is the sex-drive giving them the urge to let the world know they are ready and willing.

As everyone else said, at least two boxes and a trip to the vet are in order. Another thing that might be happening is another animal may be visible through the windows and they are marking to define their turf. (Neutering will lessen or end this urge)

Please give them the chance to be fixed before you decide to not keep them. There is a great product available at Wal-mart or Sam's Club called oda-ban that does a good job on the places marked.

You might try keeping them in one room with two litter boxes until they have their appointment. It will at least contain the problem. Of course let them out to play when you are home. Since the spots they go seem to be in obvious places, it sounds like they are trying to tell you (or the world) something, not being "naughty" Once you figure out what is wrong, the problem will end.

House cats set outside face a very hard time. I've rescued many and buried others. They don't know how to hunt (which is a learned skill) or how to avoid dangers. If you do decide not to keep them, please try to find a no-kill shelter or foster-home. You obviously care about them or you would not be posting here... once fixed I bet you will find you have solved the problem and have years of joy with them.

    good luck!

    Perfume

I had a problem with one of my male cats spraying around the house. He marked mostly near doors and windows, but also in the bathroom - on my bathrobe!

At night I would use a black light to find the spots, clean them with all sorts of cleaners and enzymes, I even hung tinfoil so that the sound of the spray hitting it would scare him... NOTHING worked.

This summer I purchased an almond body lotion, and to avoid mixing fragrances, I stopped using cologne (C K One). My cat has not sprayed since then. Maybe it's a coincidence, but it's something worth considering. I would be wearing my robe in the morning while getting dressed, and when I applied my cologne!

I've searched the internet for anyone with a similar story and haven't found anything other than a zoo that uses Calvin Klein Obsession to initiate mating in their tigers!

There are all sorts of strange things in cologne, and maybe my cat was reacting to that... perhaps he thought I was spraying and so he would spray too? Who knows the mind of a cat?

Worth a try! I wish you luck... know the frustruation!

Cologne often contains animal-sourced musks or chemically similar substances. Maybe they were making your cat "horny"!

I have a siamese that had a problem with that before and its not a pleasent one. apparently siamese have an even more sensitive sence of smell than other cats which ive heard is 10 times that of ours. I first of all went from changing the box every 2 or 3 days to EVERY day and cleaning it with anti-bacterial soap and lisole and then the fun part of getting theyre scent out of the carpet or whatever it is they are peeing on, get your carpets cleaned and buy some of that cat urine spray stuff from your vet it will help.
