    Food

What is a good natural dog food, without By products? Does anybody know? And What is a good supplement for a dogs coat. Bucky and eevee are currently eating Avo Active by breeders choice. But Bucky the 15week old rottie has flaky coat.

    Thanks

There's a thread about food under Dog Breeds "What are we feeding our dogs these days". I feed my dog Innova which doesn't have by-products.

I never heard of Avo. Advice in other threads for dog allergies (which could lead to flaky coat) is to use California Natural (made by the makers of Innova).

I made a web site of my pet food research which has links to web sites of natural dog food makers:

My dogs LOVED Flint River Ranch while they were eating it. But it was way to rich for their lethargic lifestyle and they got fat!!! But they never complained!! I truly did have to stop it because I realized that was what was putting the weight on them. I had even cut back on the amount I fed them, but they continued to balloon (I did too, but I wasn't eating it! ). You just have to research and find the right thing.

We're in the process of switching to California Natural, Chicken and Rice, this week, just because my girls have the itchies (red bumps on their bellies and under their arms). Plus, they have really reached the target weight using the Iams Weight Control food. Honey has just lost interest in it, otherwise, I'd just keep on with it. It is so much easier to feed them the same thing.

Check out any links posted to research, and then, just judge for yourself.

    Good luck!

Holly's lean for a Corgi but her weight is good. Is California Natural a store bought dog food?

Chris, the California Natural and Innova foods are sometimes really hard to find! Most pet stores like Petco or Petsmart don't carry them--you have to go to specialty stores or, where I live, to a feed store (like where ranchers buy livestock food).

If you visit the website www.naturapet.com there's a link that'll help you search for a retailer of Cal Nat or Innova near you!

My local supplier had to order it for me. He said that he quit carrying it because there was not enough demand. There is now!!

Thank you for your replies. I was very concerned because bucky's coat was a little flaky and dull, the vet told me it's because he is a puppy. It has begun to change dramatically, He is currently eating avo active with the Gluco. Chon. Complex. It is hard to find a natural dog food for the large working breed. Avo Active is the best I could find, But I do not know if it is good for the large working breed? My Vet wants me to switch to science diet, I don't think that is a good idea.

    Thank you for your help

    food

I switched to Solid Gold after my dog was diagnosed with cancer. He's doing great so far. They are not organic, which I would prefer, but I can buy it at a small pet store here in town. http://www.solidgoldhealth.com/default.asp

They have brochures which are better than their website, but the basic fact is that it is really good food.

This January, I found a stray dog, she smelled soooo bad. After 2 weeks, living outside, no baths and only this dog food, she didn't smell at all. I would never have believed it before, but I'm sold now...

We have discussed food here MANY,MANY times~! And I never tire of hearing everyone's opinions.
I am a firm believer of Royal Canin Holistic Dog food, its what I had Shaianne on and Keegan is on the puppy formula now. Both have loved it.
Innova is excellent food also, I bought it for both but went back to Royal Canin b/c its a little easier for me to get.
Shaianne had trouble with her bowels about 2 mos after I got her she had rectal bleeding, not alot but enough to notice. That was diagnosed as cholelitis, after 2 rounds of treatment we solved that. About 6 mos before she died, she vomited frequently, sometimes when I would wake up in the morning I would find 4-5 piles of vomit around the house. That was diagnosed as gastritis. The vet said she probably had a sensitive bowel and might have to put her on perscription food. But I found the Royal Canin Holistic blend and after treatment with antibiotics we never had a problem as long as I left her on that food.
When I got Keegan I tried a few other kinds, but really prefer her on R.C. I let Shaianne have canned food and frozen bil-jac with it. I am trying to strictly keep Keegan on the dry food and she does get table scraps occasionally, I am a sucker! Occasionally I will get her the biljac but not very often, just don't want to start that.

On a side note, I feed Kylie Royal Canin also and I tried switching her food and she vomited several times, so I am switching her back to Royal Canin.
