    Ebony is hurt

One of Bunny's babies Ebony went for her myximatosis vaccine today. Ebony is the little brown and white bunny who looks like her mum. I was sitting stroking her and felt these lumps on her back. I showed the vets and they are bite marks. She got them from her sister Dusty. I had noticed that Dusty was picking on her two weeks ago so I moved Ebony back into the same hutch as her mum. Just as well really.

Ebony is the smallest of the six babies that Bunny gave birth to. She is really small, she is three months old and looks nowhere near it. Lucky I found out in time what was going on.

It is very unusual for female rabbits to fight with each other. It is usually the boys who have to be split up. But so far the two boys that I have left are still friends.

The photo is of Ebony aged one month approx.

I think she looks like a little mouse in this shot. What do you think?

She is so adorable. I recently found out that I have 2 girls. I thought I had a boy and a girl and that was why they were so affectionate. Matter of fact I rushed to get them fixed because I thought it was that baby making time. Well the vet informaed me that I had 2 girls and that they were not mating but enforcing dominance. I said ok...I got them fixed anyway for health purposes and they still love each other. I will post pictures real soon. Take care of that cute baby bun !

    Thanks

Thanks for all of your kind thoughts. Ebony is still with mum

she is so small, I worry about her. Her mum is quite a big rabbit and I think even Bunny squashes her.

I don't want to put her in a hutch of her own as she needs company.

I've done a lot of reading on bunny behavior and it is not unusual for females to fight. They argue over food, space, the boys and especially who is going to be boss. In the wild bunnies live in a hierarchical society and they determine among themselves who is allowed to do what and where they can do it. This carries over to domestic rabbits as well. We think of bunnies, especially females, as cute and loving animals (which of course they are) but it is also in their nature to be territorial and become jealous of other buns. They may or may never work out their differences, some do and some don't. We have had to do a lot of separating of our bunnies when things don't work out at the sanctuary. Since Ebony is so small right now you have done the right thing by separating her from her sister for now. Perhaps later on when she is larger and stronger you might try to put them together again. So really, the sister isn't really being mean, she's just really being a bunny.
    Good luck!

    Thanks Daisylover for your advice.

Ebony is much happier with her mum.

Dusty the one causing all of the trouble has now been rehomed today.

Ebony is doing ok. Dusty the other female who was fighting with her has now found a new home. Ebony is still living in the same hutch as her mum. Ebony was the smallest in the litter, she is about the size of a small guinea pig even though she is four months now. Even though she eats a lot, she is however quite thin.
    Thanks for asking Daisylover.
