Relay For Life ***Lots of Pics***

Friday evening I attended the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life. This was my 2nd time being there and doing my Survivor Victory lap around the area. Its a great feeling and also a great reminder of how precious life really is. Lots of you here already know that I was diagnosed with uterine cancer in April 2003. It has been 20 months now since the end of my treatments. Sometimes it seems like it was years ago but lots of times it seems like yesterday. The Relay for Life is a great fundraiser and I had a really good time.

    On with the pics!

This is Allen and he played the bag pipes when we started out for our Victory lap. Allen also attends the church that I occasionally go to and I was happy to see him and his wife there.

Me and my father-in-law, Tom. We are wearing our Survivor T-shirts.

    My Survivor Luminarie

The Stage and surrounding area was lined with luminaries. I think the paper said there were 361 Survivors that attended that night.

    Releasing the Ballons!

They have a Miss Relay For Life Contest. Very cute! Some guys dress up like ladies and see how much money they can collect. These guys are great sports and put a smile on everyone's face! They raised over $3000!

    MISS RELAY FOR LIFE!

I took this pic when we were taking a silent lap in memory of those who didn't survive. We all carried lit candles also. The luminaires lit they way.

Ohhhh....I can't leave out a few of the cute doggies that I met

    A very nosey dog

    A cute little Westie

    An adorable Boston

A Neopolitan Mastiff. The picture doesn't really show it, but this boy was kind of creepy looking. I hate to say that. The rims of his eyes and his gums were blood red and he looked like he had some freaky mask on. Is that normal? He didn't look healthy at all. I think the owner said he was 9 months old.

This little girl is Maggie. She is soooo sweet! Her daddy use to work with my husband.

    Ivy...a little Basenji

Ok, I know I posted lots of pics but I was a bit bored and thought I would share. I hope you enjoyed some of them.

I can't leave without preaching just a little bit. I want to remind each and everyone of you to please have all of your yearly checkups and exams done. It is very important!! If you think there is something weird going on with your body, make sure you tell your doctor. It could save your life! If my sister had went for her yearly checkups with her doctor/gyn she would more than likely be here with us today. Please, go for your yearly checkups!

Thank you for all of your support Pet Talk!

Great pics! Relay for Life is a great thing! They raise so much money every year . . . and for a GREAT cause! I used to be really active . . . my aunt was the director for the RFL in my hometown so I was really involved. Past few years, I just go & walk. I've had several family members to pass on from cancer and my MIL is a survivor.

It's always so touching during the silent lap. Very sad . . . it's a nice way to remember those that have gone on and those who have survived.

    Hey!

I didn't know that you are going through cancer. I hate to hear this. You are to awesome of a person to have went through this. I am glad its behind you now though.

The Relay looks like a fun thing you went to, and the pups are adorable.

Robin, it's so great that you're a survivor! You should be very proud of that. I got a little teary eyed looking at the luminaries from your family and everyone else's that weren't so lucky. I get the joy of my first mamogram next month Those dogs are so cute. I'm glad you got to participate. I think it's neat they had the horseback riders there, too.

I did the right thing by setting you free
But the pain is very deep.
If only I could turn back time, forever, you I'd keep.
    I miss you

I hear you whimper in your sleep
I gently pet you and say, no bad dreams
It will be alright, to my dog as dark as night.

Fur as dark as the night.
    Join me on this flight.
Paws of love that follow me.
In my heart you'll forever be.

How I wish I could hold you near.
Turn back time to make it so.
Hug you close and never let go.

A truly worthwhile event. I am glad you were able to participate. My best friend is a cancer survivor and invited me to go to her first Relay for Life event a couple of years ago, unfortunately she lived 700 miles away and I was unable to do it. Thanks for sharing the event with us. Oh and of course you know I have to say, Thanks for the picture of Maggie . She is adorable.

You would have loved Maggie! She was a little lovergirl. I wish I could have gotten a better pic of her for you, but I was too busy getting lots of love from her. She was so well behaved and her daddy says she goes everywhere with them.
