Question about calicos

As I have posted here , my mother got a little calico girl today.

Now I may sound very stupid, but there are two things I have heard about calicos, and now I wonder if this is true or not:

1. Calicos are always female

2. They are always infertile


Is this a fact, or only an old wives' tale?


I always thought of myself as a person that knows some things about cats, but I'm not sure about this one...

Calicos are almost always female. It is super super rare to have a male calico. If by some miracle you do get a male calico he is infertile but female calicos are fertile. Female calicos can have babies. there are a few other things about calicos too. Most are quite vocal and have an extra dose of catitude. LOL

As she said, it is only the rare male calico that is sterile.

Most calicos are female, and perfectly normal on terms or reproductive matters.

Well, I'm pretty sure that Peggy is a girl, I've checked it out!

And I will tell my mom that she's fertile, she was already hoping to save the money for her surgery!

I had a calico when I was a child. Her litter was 6 or 7 as I remember.....none calico....

It's all true, Kirsten! And yes, Maya is pretty vocal too, but as she has a very "thin" and "high" voice, that is purfect!!!

ps. She got fixed when she was 7 months old. Better be safe, hey
