    Dear Barbara...here we go again

    Hello Barbara.

This time it is serious and Mom said I should post to you in Cat Health. I am the worst I have ever been with my skin and today at 4:30, my Mom and Dad are taking me to a Cat Clinic, where they only deal with cats. I have a bare belly and my front and back legs look horrible. She said she wasn't even going to take a picture of me right now.

Would you please say a prayer for me, Barbara, and hopefully others will do the same. I'm sick of having to get crammed in that carrier every 2 months or so and have another shot, only to get messed up again. I hope my mom will get some answers today and that I will be better, soon.

    Love,
    The Itchy Buttercup

This is "Mom" reporting in, just to let you know that at least I have him in the house. Now to find him again around 4 PM to get him in the carrier to take him to the vet!
"Daddy" and I will figure out a way, and remember, Butter, it is for your own good that we do it. PLEASE!!!!!!!

Oh Butter, you sweet boy, I am terribly sorry for you.

Now we have to attack that systematically:

first: you be a good boy and let your mom get you in that box. I understand that you don't like it, being an independent cat, but it is over quickly and I am sure you get a treat once you get home.

Second: That sounds like a mighty fine clinic where she is taking you. I am sure they will be able to help you my dear little friend.

Third: All Pet Talkers will send their prayers, best thoughts and healing vibes.

We all are a little cramped these days because so many kitties and humans need crossed paws and fingers but you'll be on top of my list.

Many scritchies to you ( I know you will always be beautiful ) and hugs to your mom.

Buttercuppers, you poor baby. I do hope the new clinic will know just what you need to make you feel lots better. I'm thinking that the Mom is absolutely stressed out seeing your skin all inflamed like that. So try to do your best to cooperate for the trip and show the new vets how sweet and gentle a kitty you can be.

Oh poor Butterboy! I know how miserable it is to itch all the time.....and I just can't image you so sore that a photo is a bad idea....that's bad!

I will be thinking good thoughts that you find a good kitty dermatologist at the clinic!

    The indignity of it all!!!!!

My mother came home from work early, and I was peacefully asleep. She stroked me sweetly, then proceeded to pick me up and told me that I need to cooperate with her. What's that?

Anyway then she grabbed me by that skin on the back of my neck that just makes me completely fall apart and she stuffed me in that carrier and zipped me in! She says that we are leaving shortly to go to the vet and it was easier if Daddy didn't have to come home to help her. He's going to meet us there.

Oh dear, I hope this vet will fix me so I won't have to do this again for a long, long time. ****sigh****

    Love,
    Butter

Poor little Butter boy. I sure hope this new special vet can figure out what's making you itch like that. Will be sending positive thoughts and prayers your way - and your meowmy and daddy's way. You be a good boy now because this is all just for you!

Well, I guess it always is a good thing to get a second opinion, even if it costs a bit more. Dr. Anderson was a kind and educated veterinarian, but her diagnosis is the same as what we have had. She did offer up some alternatives for us, though. She suggested that we try Science Diet X/D (dry and wet) to see if that helps his symptoms. It is quite expensive, so we will have to feed Mimi seperately. They have always had free feeding privleges, so it will be a bit tougher, but if it helps, then so be it. She also suggested that we give him 1/4 of a Claritin tablet, can't remember whether she said once or twice per day (but she did write it all down for me). And she said that there is a feline dermatologist that comes into town periodically who could do allergy testing, but she didn't sound too high on that.

Bottom line is that we will try the new food (wet and dry...wet food is $1.65/can and the dry is about $18 for a 5 lb bag) and in a week or so, we may choose to throw in the Claritin to ward off possible reoccurences of this problem. She gave him a steroid shot and also sent home Clavimox to administer twice per day and suggested we put it in his wet food, just a little bit at a time. After the way he treated me, she made sure to tell me not to attempt to give him this medication orally.

This is the first time that Buttercup has ever acted up at the vet, but my left hand looks like ground beef, on the inside of my hand and the outside. My camera is at work or I would share it with you. It is the worst he has ever gotten me. And I've always thought that Dr. Robinson probably thought I was lying because Butter is like Jello when we go to see him. He made sure Dr. Anderson saw his cattitude today. Scott was in there with me and said that I should have let him go. I did not want him to attack the technician and the vet!!! , so I interveneed and I have the bloody hand to prove it.

I liked her. Butter obviously didn't.

Butter says "thanks" for the good wishes. No one wishes that he could improve more than he does!!!!!! )

Butter's loving mom (and yes, I do still love him...just want him to feel better),

Definitely "was", Phred. I have a huge gash on the palm of my left hand.....of course, I am left handed, as well as numerous ones on the outside of my left hand as well.

I'll survive and hopefully Buttercup will learn his lesson too.!

Logan, Poor Buttercup. I hope that the new food and claritin will be able to help his itchy skin. I also hope that your hand will heal quickly. Take care.

Have you ever heard of the cat and dog food Avoderm? I've seen it in most pet stores and it's supposed to help their skin. Here's a link about it: http://www.breeders-choice.com/Cat_P...vodermcat.html.

Poor Butter and poor You. I do hope Butter's meds help him
clear this up quickly. Take care of your hand also. I had a small
scratch from playing "catch the finger" with one of my cats & it
hurt like heck till it healed. That was just one tiny scratch.
