Help Chipped bone in elbow

I am totally stressed....our 9 month old golden has a bone chip in elbow due running into a hard snow bank in Jan ( yah took this long to get it fugured out...long story) Anyway he was recently exrayed and found that he has this chip. The only way to remove it is with orthoscopic surgery. Sounds like a fairly "minor" surgery but specialized so pricey. My concerns are will he walk normally after? I know the risks of arthuris. Has anyone else had to go through this? What can I expect?

They are guaranteed to rub and cause inflamation of the surrounding soft tissues. But removal should resolve the situation without arthritis or any future complications. Pricey but shouldn't be a complicated operation.

sorry I can't really help here because I've never went through one. but I think the operation is worth it, it should help the most of your dog parts in the future. meaning...walk, run better and less chance of arthritis.

you know, sometimes this sounds unfair but not able to walk as well as before is better than having chip (if painful) for the rest of his life?

The sooner you get it removed the better. The longer it stays in there, rubbing etc... the more chance you have of the dog developing arthritis or worse arthritis or other complications.
He may already have slight arthritis there depending on how much damage that chip has already caused.

If done properly he should walk normal, or at least the same as he is now. Again it really depends on how much damage that chip has already caused. I do know that it should not cause anything to be worse thats for sure.

I'd have a consultaion with your vet, or actually the specialist. Go ahead & ask him exactly what you said here & more if need be. You should know all abut the surgery before its done therefore you know what to expect & how to treat him during & after his recovery.
