    Destructive scratching

Caleb has suddenly started using everything as a scratching post, including our walls! This is not good, because we rent our home.

He has a scratching post, a cat tree that also serves as a scratching post, and a scratch board. He uses them. He's shredded my shower curtains, he ripped all of the foam off of the exercise machine, he scratched up my cedar chest, he's scratching the reclining chair and the back on the couch. He's also torn up the mat on the kitchen floor and he's obliterated a couple of cardboard boxes.

He gets his nails clipped on a regular basis; they are not too long. He doesn't seem to be angry about anything. He gets alot of playtime. I play with him for a bit everyday and pet him lots, and my mom's bf comes over almost everyday and spends a whole couple of hours just playing with him. Maybe he's frustrated because he's indoors? I don't know.

Oops....!! I am afraid that Caleb has some hidden problem... . I would like to advise you to consult your vet about this. You say he didn't do this before, so there has to be a reason for this change is his behaviour! Did you get another pet recently? Or a baby? This might make him jealous...

You mention about maybe he is upset because he is indoors. Is this something new, was he an outdoor kitty before?

He's going to the vet soon to get his teeth checked (I got a free coupon), so I can ask the vet then. I haven't gotten a new pet or anything. Caleb has always been an indoor cat, but I suspect that he wants outside. He always stares out the window and he has gotteb loose a few times.
