I took Flower into the vet this afternoon since it was my day off and it wasn't so busy. I knew she had mites, and they were getting out of control, but when we did the skin scraping today...WOW! There were so many of them!!! It was horrific! She got dosed with Ivermectin and needs to come back in two weeks for a second treatment, and then two weeks after that for a third. After that we will do another skin scraping to make sure all the nasties are gone. Good thing it was sarcoptic mange, which is species specific so there is no chance of the little buggers hopping off onto one of my other pets. We also did a fecal on her and that was all clear.She was weighed and is a normal weight, so she is healthy except for the mites.
She was a little grumpy today because I bathed her and clipped her nails before she went into the vet. She wasn't a happy camper that's for sure!She kept rolling into a ball so I had to scruff her to the scraping and application of Ivermectin. I'm just glad she is healthy and hope the mites leave her alone soon.
Poor girl. Prayers she recovers soon please.
P.S. Flower is a hedgehog.
