    ???lemon beagle???

my sister was given a puppy, that i got to meet last week. She was told it was a lemon beagle. His name is CHARLIE. He is so cute. He has soft floppy ears almost like a basset, and a little beagle body. His muzzle is what throws me off. It's long and narrow, not, like what i thought a beagle face looked like. He does, however, have a little yellow color about him. I don't know alot about alot of breeds, but think i know what a beagle looks like. Next time i will get pics. he is really cute. Does anybody have any thoughts???

Beagles don't necessarily have a standard on their markings and lemon is an accepted colour. I assume this is a two-toned beagle. The ears also only have a set length for show and can be very long. Keep in mind that a puppies ears will look huge. My uncle used to breed them for hunting and they were working types that had a thinner looking head than the show types. Perhaps this one is working quality and not show quality. Either way I'm sure he's adorable and pics are a must.
Which lemon does he look most like?

Here's a more working type beagle.

CHARLIE looks like the third pic, but his coloring is lighter like the second one. His parents are hunting dogs. Thanks, and i will get some pics soon.

I hope lemon means the color of the dog and not like "lemon car".

I've seen a LOT of hunting beagles, and only see a muzzle like that on a dog that is not well bred (byb etc..)

Beagles are not catagorized into show & hunting groups, although there are different size groups for them, height wise, otherwise there is just one beagle.

I don't mean to be rude, all dogs are cute, but a beagle should have a shorter muzzle.

If you follow non-american show types most do not look anything like what we have here, they look like the one I pictured.

My friend had a beagle, and her sister had a lemon beagle, they are going to be bred some time, I don't know when though. She says that this breed is very nice and gentle, she did research on it too!

I'm in America and actually rarely see any that look like the last pic you posted, even most BYB & such have the shorter squarer muzzle.
I see a LOT of beagles too.

Maybe I got that reply confused. Are you saying most in america do have the shorter muzzle or the other way around?

I'm saying that breeders here go for particular look and breed dogs that conform to that one look they like, whereas others don't forget what beagles are, a working hound that is not bred to conform to a show-type look but rather to its job and termerment. I've seen beagles go up that are any height to 16 inches with all types of houndy ears and muzzels and color combinations, only in America have I seen such conformation to one pretty look. This one doesn't have to be a byb beagle, its just not bred for the ideal show look, it may otherwise be an excelent representation of the breed. My uncles wasn't a byb'er (rarely did he sell his pups), he raised beagles for hunting hounds rather than for show stoppers and the blocky look and tri-colored perfect-saddle colouring isn't necessary to have a quality beagle.

the perfect saddle is not better than the lemon, color doesn't matter in the standard.
    from the AKC standard:
    Color
    Any true hound color
