I just seen a dog in need of help. *support needed*

I went to the grocery store, since they didn't have what I wanted I drove around my little town. I went down a side street and I seen a very and I mean very thin dog. You could see every bone in his body. I slowed down to write down the address and the information about the dog. The dog ran up to my car. I wanted to let the dog in my car. I have a huge fear of dogs unless I know the dog or have only heard good things about it. I just called the SPCA and left a message. When my husband gets home on his break should I take him over there so we can go get the dog or should I let the SPCA take care of it? I won't even take Gracie in my car by myself because I get to side tracked while I am driving. My mom is saying let the SPCA handle it, but my gut is telling me to go get it. What should I do? My husband will be home in about an hour for his break. Please give me some support and advice.

P.S If I go get the dog I have to wait for my husband, he knows how to calm me down when I have a huge fear of something. Also sorry if this is hard to read I am shaking from the sight of this dog and I am very upset right now.

I think you should wait for the SPCA, sort of. If you don't hear back from them soon, maybe you can contact another agency. It is great that you got the information and contacted someone about it. As long as the dog is contained in a certain area, and not in any immediate danger, let the people trained to assist such dogs take care of him. My only hesitation is that you a said you left a message, and I don't know how often they check those messages.

Hubby got home from break, we went to go find the dog but couldn't find it. So my husband has agreed that on his way home he will swing by there and see if the dog is out. If it is he will bring it home. I also forgot to mention in my first post that the dog had a collar and tags, so my husband will look to see where the dog is from. If the dog is from around us I think we will be keeping it until it gets better and gets some fat on it's bones.

Please pray that we find the dog and can help it.

its good that you care, most people dont. . . poor little pup!

If you do find him and bring him home, its best to keep him isolated from Gracie until he has gotten all of his shots and you know his temperament better.

Hubby couldn't find him. I will be out looking tomorrow as well. On hubby's way home from his break and from work he will be looking also. I really hope I find him. If I do find him should I get him into the vet right away and explain that I just found him? Or should I wait until he gets a few small meals in him first? I don't want the vet to think I did that to him. If we do find him he will be seperated for a while. I will need to know if he can get along with Gracie as well as the cats. Wish me luck for tomorrow.

If you do find the dog, I'd take him straight to the vet. I don't know much about rehabilitating a starving dog, but, I do know that you have to slowly feed them and get them back to a healthy weight. Not just let them eat a lot of food right away. There should be a record of your call to the SPCA with the information about the dog, so, if the vet were to think you were the one starving the dog, you should be able to prove that he isn't yours. I don't know, I would take him to the vet, regardless. I hope you can find him and help him out.

If I find him I do plan on taking him to the vet. My one vet is very understanding so I hope I will get him if I find the dog. I need to remember that vets name so I can make sure I get him.

Poor dog, I hope he's okay, and I hope you find him. You're such a wonderful person for caring!
