    Prayers for Gidget Please....

She was at the Emergency Vet Sunday morning for what they thought was a UTI and told me it would clear on its own, usually within 5 days. She has been fine the past few days. I was concerned about the lack of antibiotics so I called my own vet and got some in case it reoccured. Well, she has been eating, drink and otherwise acting normal until 3:00 this morning. In and out of the litter box, licking herself excessively, I tried to discourage it, but she continued. Then went and hid under the bed. Had to use a curtain rod to persuade her to come out. Put her in a separate room for observation. Hubby watched her drink quite a bit of water and then go in and out of the litter box frequently without much to do in it and heard her cry once. He patted her and tried to calm her, but when he got near her belly she growled and kicked him which isn't like her at all. So, off to the vets again this morning. I had to leave her which broke my heart, but we need to see what is going on. They will do urinalysis, maybe x-rays etc. I'm waiting to hear. Please say a prayer for her that it isn't anything serious. If anything like this ever happens again I don't care what any doctor says I want meds.

First and foremost, I hope Gidget gets the proper medical diagnosis this time. Me and my furkids are pulling for her.

I have NEVER heard of a UTI going away by itself. It's painful to the poor kitty and antibiotics are needed to clear it up.

My Tinkerbelle got one last September, she was frantically trying to use the litterbox repeatedly with no result. When she did suceed, there was blood in her urine. I took her to the vet and they did a urinalysis and it was determined she did have UTI and was given Clavamox, which seemed to work for relieving the UTI but it badly upset her stomach, and she began vomitting so back to the vet's for an overnight stay and all kinds of tests.

It turned out she was 'allergic' so to speak to the clavamox, they started her on Baytril shots, once a day for seven days and another something to settle her stomach and she's been fine since.

    Good luck

    Oh, poor Gidget!

I agree with Shady- I never heard of an UTI going away by itself. And as she drank and couldn't pee, her little bladder was most likely full- which is dangerous.

But now she is in good hands. We went through that with Tigris 5 months ago - now with Gidget it depends on what the reason is: Bacteria, stones, idiopathic.

The good thing: most of it can be controlled well.

All my best thoughts for little Gidget

Sorry to hear she's having more problems, but I agree with the others in that UTI's don't normally clear up on their own without antibiotics. Is this your regular vet that she's at now? Just curious because I, personally, would never take one of my cats back to that emergency vet who said it would clear up on its own. The good news is she's in the best place possible right now and they should be able to discover the problem and start treating her. Antibiotics usually start to have an immediate effect so even if she seems better when she gets home, be sure to continue the meds until they are all gone. I did as prescribed with Peanut a fews ago and hers still came back.

    Get well soon, Gidget!

Thank you everyone for the advice and good wishes!! First of all, no unless it is an emergency I won't go back to the "Emergency" Vet. I just spoke with our regular vet and he gave her an exam which everything looked good, her bladder was empty and everything else seemed good, so apparently she did go (I thought she had, but where she kept going back I wasn't sure-with 4 cats you can't always keep track of who has done what, where and when), just due to the infection feels that she still needed to go. I gave her the first Clavamox this morning when I noticed her acting a bit off and he suggested I should continue with the medication and keep an eye on her. I picked it up the other day, but figured what the vet had said about it clearing on its own was true and hesitated to give it to her, sure wish I had. Anyway, he said they could do x-rays at this point, but didn't feel it was necessary, because he doesn't think she has an obstruction. He thinks what happened is, she was on Clindamycin for gingivitis and probably during the end of those meds she got the UTI, so it appeared to have cleared up due to that medication, but when she finished it the UTI reoccured because she hadn't been treated long enough with an antibiotic to clear that up. So I will pick her up this afternoon, give her the second dose and lots of love and hope she gets better. He said she was resting and that her temp was just a little low probably do to her inactivity in the cage. My poor baby!! I can't wait to get her. I hated leaving her, but better to be safe than sorry.

I sure hope that Gidget's UTI clears up quickly and that the medicine won't be too hard on her tummy. My Storm had a UTI recently and was on Baytril pills for 7 days and also antimax cream. He just had another urinalysis yesterday and I'm hoping to get the results tomorrow morning. UTI's are very painful and I know they can't go away on their own. The emergency vet needs to be more informed about this. I'm so glad that she's in good hands now. Please take care and keep us updated.

Sounds like Gidget will be fine ... just remember that just like us, kitties have to finish all of their course of antibiotics!

Thank you to everyone. Gidget was very glad to get home last night after spending the day at the vets. She was a good girl and took her medication last night and this morning. She isn't to happy about it, but I think she knows that it will help her. She is a good girl and her brother Garfield and daughter Fluffy and son Rusty along with her Mommy and Daddy were happy to have her home. She did the big tour of the house to make sure that nothing had changed in her abscense and just kind of took it easy. She seems to be more herself this morning. I hope the medication works and she continues to improve and that everyone else stays healthy. Thanks to everyone for their thoughts and advice. The emergency vet does have something to learn!!

    Update.....

Thank you all for your concern and thoughts. She seemed to be doing well for a few days. Had a set back during the night. Again, licking and a little bloody (lite blood) discharge. Gave her a warm wash cloth bath and she seems to be doing OK. Eating well, drinking plenty of water and using the litter box normally and beating everyone up. She rules the roost. Keeping an eye on her. After last weeks emergency vet visit ($108.00) to have them tell me it will clear on its own, I hesitated to call them for their input. Will watch through out the night. Have been up with her since 1:00 am. Still on meds, this is day number 5. I pray that she will be all right. She is her lovable self, so hopefully, I just haven't allowed enough time for medicine to take affect. No bleeding recently or excessive licking, but the night is young. Please keep her in your thoughts!! Thank you!
