Not Using his Literbox

My male cat "JD" is 15. He is in good condition but he will not go in is litter box. He will urinate in it, but thats it. he defecates in the living room. i have trired everything, sprays, new litter, etc.. nothing has worked. can someone help me. it's driving me crazy.

How often is the litter box cleaned and what kind of litter are you currently using? Has he ever used it for defecating? Usually it is the other way around. If they have a problem they will not urinate in the box. I'm sure someone here will help provide thoughts or an answer.

First, I'd rule out a medical problem, seeing as he's 15 years old. Once that's ruled out, you might try and isolated him in a room with his litterbox, food and water. Praise him if you see him do his business in the box. It shouldn't take long.
