Does anyone live near Guelph, Ontario and know of a cat needing a good home?

I'm posting this on behalf of my friend Sonja. She is looking to adopt a cat but is having that same problem that Laura and I did, namely, she's a 21 year old student (even with me working full time we had trouble adopting, until we found Animal Love). She is also smart, honest, caring, and very responsible. In short, perfect for a cat!!! If anyone can point her in a direction where she might have more luck I would be very grateful, and so would she, and quite possibly the cat she adopts as well. Thanks everyone, for taking the time to read this.

I picked both mine up at local kill shelters here in Texas. Do you have these? Ours are called "Animal Control" and each city has one. Poor animals. They are killed each week or 3 days for strays or right away for owner releases if they don't have the room to keep them. They didn't ask me about work or anything - just the money - $8 if already fixed and $40 for the fix from a local vet. If there is anything wrong with them of course you don't know ahead of time - they just put them up for adoption if they look healthy. Both mine have a little adjusting to do as both were caught in traps in the wild. But they seem to have had a home at one time since they know all the basics. Anyway - just an idea if you have shelters near you. Debbie

Alexa had the same problem too, I mean I'm happy that they really screen people but at the same time I wonder how many wonderful homes have been turned away. The Humane Society didn't want to let Alexa adopt Tuna and Pocky because she is a student and they don't like to adopt to students (which sometimes I can understand why). They say that at the end of the school year they get lots of animals dropped off by college students who are going away for the summer or who are moving. So from their point of view I can understand the hesitation.

But the funny thing is that Alexa is a homeowner and they still wouldn't listen to her. She kept telling them that she was stable and secure and that these kittens would not ever be dumped or given away. Then they kept asking for the landlord's phone number to verify that she could have cats. She handed them her number and said "I am my landlord!" So, they finally let her fill out the adoption papers.
    I've been Defrosted!

Thanks for the great signature Kay!

PetSmart or Petcetera has Humane Society cats for adoption. They don't seem to be as strict in questioning people. I know a huge cat-lover who really had a hard time at the Humane Society; adopted 2 cats from PetSmart & Petcetera (the cats have a great life at her place.)

Did you try contacting the clinic at Guelph University? I am sure they get cats dropped off all the time and they may be able to tell you the best place to get them and then again maybe they do adoptions themselves. And I am sure seeing it is a university they shouldn't be too decriminating against students. it's worth a shot.

I live in Burlington and just found out last night about someone trying to re-home two cats...they are litter mates and the owner does not want them seperated.

Would she take two very lovable cats from Burlington?

Hmmmm.................... Thanks for the advice everybody, I've passed the link to this thread to her, hopefully it'll help. I don't know if she could rehome two cats.... I sure could..... If I'm allowed.... We adopted our two guys from Petsmart, three shelters put cats in on a month by month basis, great idea. Thanks again, I'll let you know how it goes!
