    Yankee or Dixie?

Take this test to find out

Do you have more of a Yankee dialect or a Southern dialect?

I am 40% Yankee which isn't too bad since I was born in upstate New York.

    And guess what I scored?

70% (Dixie). A definitive Southern score!

A bit weird since most of the time I spent in the US, was in Hawaii, San Fran, & Washington DC.

53% (Dixie). Barely into the Dixie category.

Haha, in Wisconsin we use "Bubbler" for a drinking/water fountain when I clicked on that it said "Heavy bias in southern Wisconsin and Massachusetts"- I am in southern Wisconsin, hehehe. That made me chuckle. Oh and what kind of sale is in the front yard- I clicked rummage sale it said "Western Great Lakes including Chicago and Milwaukee"- I am 5 min outside Milwaukee, lol.

That test is a good one.

48% Yankee, barely into the Yankee category. I guess that makes sense, since I was born in the Midwest - not far above the Mason-Dixon line, in Southern Illinois. I spent 7 years living in Louisiana, including the 4 years I attended LSU, and I picked up a few things down there. I have lived in St. Louis, MO, since July 2003, so I guess I'm swinging back toward Yankee again. Pretty good test - I'll have to pass this one on.

There are a couple things I do that are more Southern, and a couple things I do that are more Northern - for example, I still will say "Y'all" occasionally, just b/c it's easier than saying "You guys" or "You all", but I say it less often than I did when I first moved up here. Interesting.

One of the true tests of where you're from is what you call where you put groceries at the store - I call it a shopping cart, b/c that's what I learned growing up, but down South, most people call them buggies. Hmmm. Interesting thread.

Thanks to krazyaboutkatz for the cute avatar and wolf_Q for the cute siggy!

Rest in Peace, sweet Leo. You are sorely missed!
Since I last posted, we have another new addition - Tabitha, as of fall 2008.

Same result for me. If the test doesn't help you to filter the Germans out then it doesn't help much
