More sledding pictures & a hurt dog!

We went for a run this afternoon. I was feeling ambitious so I hooked up 8 dogs. Usually, I can only manage to get six in line by myself, but I have a tour booked for next week so I needed to get the dogs some practice in a team of 8 with weight on the sled.

This was taken about 4 kilometres from home. The dogs are from the leaders back--Pingo & Founder, Mac & Pacer, Ozzy & Antare, Chase & Franklin.

    Back in the yard

I think they were watching Daisy--my neighbor's dog. She was playing in the snow off to the side. You can't see Frankin because he was laying down.

Founder taking a break after his workout!

Chase checking to see if I have any more fish snacks for him. The dogs all get a chunk of fish after a run.

And poor Franklin recovering in the house. Franklin got jumped by a loose dog on the way home. If you look closely you can see the tear in his right ear. I didn't realize he was hurt when we got by the dogs or I would have stopped and taken a strip off the owner. I did call the city Animal Control officer when we got home and filed a complaint. Probably not much he can do, but I felt like I had to report it anyway. My vet says there isn't much she can do either! She could only knock Franklin out and cut the flap of torn skin off. I've elected not to do that as Franklin does not handle anasthetic well and I'd rather not put him under for cosmetic reasons.

That first picture is awesome! I just love your sledding pics. Poor Franklin. I just hate it that he got hurt. Makes me so mad! I'm glad that you reported it even though it might not do any good. He sure does look nice and cozy inside though. Please tell all the pups that I'm sending them a hug and just love them like crazy.

Not that I want any of them to be hurt, but it drives me nuts that it was Franklin who did get hurt. I'm sure he gives off some kind of signal to other dogs. It never fails--if we have a problem with a loose dog or another dog team, Franklin is the dog they go after. He's never been hurt before though. He's the sweetest little guy, no threat to anybody, but I guess he's an easy target.

loove those pics! the snow and scenery is sooo gorgeous, and your dogs look like some of the happiest dogs in the world !!

poor Franklin! I hope his little ear gets better, poor guy. I *hate* people who leave their dogs loose, especially when they've clearly not been taught any obedience and are agressive. Its even worse seeing people in my busy suburban neighborhood leaving their dogs out in their yards off leash...

    Great pics!

I don't know if you feel comfortable saying on here but where (roughly) do you live? I consider myself "Northern Canada" too but just from the pics I'd say you're more North than I.

It looks like the team had a good run! I'm sorry Franklin got hurt but it sure does look like he is enjoying you babying him back to health. Thanks for sharing your pictures with us and good luck with the tour next week.

Quite a bit North of you. I live in the Yukon.

Poor Franklin, looks like an awfully big tear! He sure looks happy in that last picture, though. Whose the "well wisher" peeking in through the window?

That's Mac! Franklin's ear is actually healing suprisingly well. It looks like the tear might actually reseal itself, at least partly.

Glad to hear that Franklin's ear is doing ok. I was hoping the tear wouldn't be too bad after it healed. Say hello to all the furkids for me.
