Just wanted to let everyone know that my spotty girl is doing just wonderful! Abby has been with us for just over two years now and is a different Dalmatian from the one that I picked up in Oklahoma City...and what an adventure we had getting home, if you all remember...emergency abdominal surgery half way to Houston. Anyway, Abby is no longer on meds for her "seizures" as it has been determined that she does not have epilepsy after all. She has a back injury that more than likely happened to her at the hands of her owner that turned her over to the kill shelter in Mobile, Alabama. As a result of the injury, if she jumps, falls, whatever and twists her back, she has severe sciatica...so not a seizure, just lots and lots of pain. This is not good, as she is aware the whole time and is hurting. By watching her and trying to protect her the best that we can, she is only having an "episode" about once every month. Other than that problem, Abby is very healthy; weighing about 48 to 50 pounds...the vets want her to stay a bit slim so that she does not put undue stress on her lower back. We say that she is "model thin"...but she looks good and the vets are happy with her weight.
Abby is very affectionate and loves to be cuddled. She and Zachary play and play and play! Even though he is almost 11, she brings out the puppy in him. Abby is very attached to Zachary and will look for him when I call him...too sweet. We still need to work on some obedience stuff, but that has been on hold until she was not so unsure of herself and lacked any confidence. We are working on the basics and are hoping she will become a therapy dog for children in the hospitals.
We recently moved from Houston to Portland and were worried that Abby would not handle it so well. Let me tell you, she surprised us all! I think that she finally figured out that since she went to another house, but still has Zachary, the same stuff, and the same humans that she really is with her Forever Family. She loves the new house and the yard and has really come into her own here.
So...thank you again Top Spot and Rocky Spot for helping "Domi" get rescued and not die unloved in a shelter. Abby is very loved! She completed our family. We adore her!
Abby says THANKS!!!!! And she had me attach a picture of her that was taken about two weeks ago...isn't she beautiful???
