    My pregnant keet *pics*

Just like any other mommy, I want to show off Lime---my budgerigar who is, once again, pregnant. It's her third clutch, and Alex is the father.

Just look at that big belly!

And here is the proud father

Sorry! I couldn't find any other pictures of him. Lime is expected to lay around Valentine's Day, so keep your minds fresh for baby names (preferably, Valentines related)!

LOL, and she grows larger everyday. Here's a pic from yesterday:

Sorry about the fuzziness of the pictures. Without flash, my camera is nothing more than a useless piece of metal

WolfChan, her first clutch consisted of nine eggs. Her second clutch was ten eggs. She's *very* fertile! I'm expecting 8-10 this time around. From the looks of it, I expect her to start laying about a week or two from today.

Uh oh! Gorgeous keeters, but I may find myself in the same predicament soon! I have a rescued parakeet called "Butter" who now has a freshly rescued boyfriend who's been giving her a lot of attention lately! Butter has layed eight eggs (all non-fertile) over the year that I've had her, but now with a boyfriend in the picture (he was rescued right before the blizzard hit) I may be seeing some nesting behaviour going on soon! Do all Lime's eggs hatch? I may get some dummy eggs if things start going too far between these two.

Hehe, yes. I love it when they enter that rich, chocolate brown stage. What better indicator could you ask for?

Queen Scoopalot, the fertility of the eggs depend on Dad. Her first clutch was sired by Lemon (the yellow bird you see in the preceding pictures). He was moderately young- 2 years. It could be his immaturity or his genetic predisposition, but out of 10 eggs, only one hatched. OTOH, Lime's second clutch was sired by Alex. He was a year older- 3 years- and 9 out of 9 eggs hatched. I can't really say for sure, because I've been told that fertility can be passed on by generation...I'm not quite sure what the dummy eggs would do, though. Can you explain? I'm so excited!!!

Congrats on your new babies to be! Can't wait to see lots of pics. Dummy eggs will slow down the egg laying and the female will sit on infertile fakes instead of real ones. I'm not in the position to have baby birds here (doing cat rescue....they don't mix) so if Butter starts really getting hot & heavy with her un-named boyfriend..I'm in trouble! K-9Soul posted a good article on slowing birds down..not sure if it pertains to budgies but guessing so.
