This might be a bit extreme, but when my sister had her first child, she had two cats and was worried about them getting into the crib, but she didn't want to close the door. So they bought an inexpensive wooden, screen door, painted it, and put it right on the babies room. Maybe you need a screen door on your room, so your room would be open, but the kitty couldn't come in unless you wanted it to.

In fact, that would be a perfect solution for us to be able to keep our cats and dogs out of the guest room where the hamsters now live. I say because the dogs are guilty of shortening the life of one of our hamsters by tipping over the cage when I wasn't home. We were quite sad, so now we have Phoebe and Olivia (the new baby hamster) behind a closed door.

Good luck. I don't like to have my door closed either!
