Oscars are fish that can grow to be very large, and have personalities to match. They look like this: (I hope this works)

Bruiser, I currently have 5 Oscars, and I can honestly say that all of them are scared to death of ping pong balls. If I drop one in the tank, they go the other direction.

I've also read that they can be taught to ring a small bell when they're hungry, although I wouldn't know where to begin teaching them how to do that.

If you have any success with either of these tricks, would you let me know?

I've heard Oscar's are very aggressive fish. A friend had one growing up but I haven' seen one in years! Is that true? Do you keep them in the same tank?

They can be quite aggressive. I have 3 in a 150 gallon tank with other types of aggressive cichlids, 1 in a 55 gallon by himself, because he's a bully, and a baby in a 10 gallon.

Thank you for the education. Somehow I'd expected them to be a variation on rodents. (Guess I just have rodents on the brain these days...)

    You're welcome, Amber.

They are very popular fish with great little personalities, (they remind me of puppies) but if you get one, be sure to get a tank big enough to house him. They can grow up to 18" long.
