New pug puppy

I just got a new pug puppy (only 6 weeks) and she is the cutest! She really misses mom and siblings though (just got her yesterday) and she cries whenever we put her down. She slept in the crate pretty much through the night, once I gave her a teddy bear for comfort and is eating and drinking. I'm not sure though how much to "baby" her. How much should I hold her vs. putting her in the crate. It breaks my heart hearing her tiny cries, but of course I will do whatever is best. Any suggestions on good puppy books or some kind of puppy schedule about what to expect at various ages. I also am wondering when to start socializing her with other dogs. She is still soooo small.

Even though she was weaned from her mother, puppies should still be with their litter mates until about 9 weeks old for comfort and socialization. Had you not given her the teddy bear she probably wouldn't have slept through the night. Give her lots of attention, but don't pick her up just because she cries or she will whine all the time until she gets her way. Don't take her around any other dogs or puppies until she has had all 3 or 4 sets of puppy shots/boosters (6 weeks, 8 weeks, 12 weeks...?) It's been a while since I've had to deal with puppy shots so your vet will be able to tell you when to have these done.

Congrats to your new addition. Usually puppies should stay with their mom at least until 8 weeks. Anyway...

Gigi cried at night too when she first came home. It's normal, cuz they are not used to the new environment. I have her crate in my room and whenever she started whimpering or making noise I will put my hand in her through the bars and that seems to calm her down. It took me about a week to sort of stop the crying at night, but she will start crying in the morning the second she heard that I am awake. I put her crate in the living room after a week. Or if you allow her to sleep with you, I am sure the crying will stop.

Then there is me having to go to work and leaving her at home. That's a whole different story.
