Himilayans in need of homes, quickly. (Crosspost)

I wish I could do something!!

Hey all,

As most of you know I'm volunteer with Feline Urgent Rescue. Recently, I've been involved in a crisis situation. It's rather a long story, so please bear with me.
Last week one of our volunteers was contacted by a man who said he had a "cat problem". As it turns out, his wife (recently committed to an institution) was breeding himalayans, and their numbers have gotten out of control.

Another volunteer and I visited the home yesterday (10/3/04) and rescued 16 kittens and 2 mother cats (all himalayans or mixes thereof) from what can only be described as deplorable conditions.

FUR can handle (just barely) these kittens, but there were also 20+ young adult cats in the house and as many (if not more) outside.

The owner of the house is an elderly man who says he is ready to poison the lot of them if someone doesn't take them (and I believe he'd do it). I am currently trying to persuade him not to and buy some time until a humane solution can be found. However, FUR cannot handle this volume of cats.

For the outdoor cats, I will contact local animal control as they are too feral to even catch. The indoor cats are a bigger problem. They are mostly tame and potentially adoptable.

That brings me to why I'm contacting you (thanks for being patient). If you or anyone you know would like an absolutely free, purebred Himalayan cat, please contact me this week. You would be responsible for their vet work - shots, spay/neuter. I can refer you to a low-cost alternatives for the vet work if you'd like. These are absolutely beautiful cats that would normally cost hundreds of dollars, and they are in dire need of homes.

Please let me know as soon as possible if you can assist in any way or if you know of any other organization that could. Please forward this e-mail to anyone you think may be interested.

I have a friend at work who is looking for a Himi. Do you think it would be possible to work out some kind of transport from SC to Michigan??? I'm going to call Brent tonight and find out. I'll let you know.

I spoke with Brent last night. Very nice man. All of the Himi kittens (there were 16 of them) have been taken by various rescue organizations. The rest of the cats are teenagers and adults that are Himi/Siamese mixes. It's a pretty sad situation there. The 2 sons of the owner have threatened to "get rid" of all of them if something isn't done quick. Brent asked for 2 weeks in order to find foster homes and contact rescue organizations. I told him I'd do whatever I could on this end.

This chick at work is SOOOOOOOO fussy, she wants a white or smokey blue Himi ONLY! I told her good luck. I told her she should go to a shelter and adopt an adult cat that's homeless. I would go above and beyond the call for anyone I thought was worthy, but this woman is an idiot and I wash my hands . You know my feelings about stupid people are.

I also just saw this...I will try and use the email posted..But I live in Oregon. I could find homes for maybe 2-3 young cats/adults..

if I already didn't have so many I would take one. I used to have a himmie and I really miss her alot since she died a few years ago. I hope the rescuer got fosters for all these poor babies. People can be so cruel. I will never understand how any one could hurt a poor defenseless creature. They should be loved and spoiled all of them!
