I really don't know but to my kitties, it's like a drug. They can't get enough of it, but they only get a smidgen on their low-protein wet food so they eat it.
Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, champagne in one hand and strawberries in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and screaming WOO HOO - What a Ride!

You had me curious, too. Thanks for checking!
I'm sometimes asked "Why do you spend so much of your time and money talking about kindness to animals when there is so much cruelty to men?" I answer: "I am working at the roots." -George T. Angell, reformer (1823-1909)

I try to buy cat food that has at least 3-4 ingredients listed before they list 'meat by products'.

Most of the seafood FF varieties are pretty good.
But, some of the turkey and beef flavors start right off the bat with by products. I avoid those flavors.

Plus, FF has no taurine. Essential for eye and heart health.

So, I too, use it as a 'topping'.
