Question for those of you who have *built* cages.

I know some of you have *built* guinea pig cages, bunny cages and such, and I just wondered where you got the materials? I know some of the materials are like... hard to explain, but you can put them into any shape? You know what I am talking about? I think Wolfie has used them... some rattie folks might know what I'm talking about. Like you get a couple square pieces and you can build them however you like. I was wondering where you got them. Thanks.

they are organizer cubes, you can get then at costco, target, staples, superstore, wal-mart... their are differnt brands of them, a common one used is neat idea cubes, where I live only one brand is avaliable, and they are just called organizer cubes lol you can use the conectters to just make like a square or rectangle, but you can use zip ties to make then virtually any shape you want. the base of the cage is generally coroplast, which you can get at any sign store, and at some home building stores.

    like this?

go to cavycages.com and they can tell you how to make it and such. Where to get the cubes and if you want to use chloroplast they can tell you where to get it too. For the cage I built Thelmer I just put carpet under it.

I'll see if I can find a pic...

Here are some pics of the age I built for Thelmer.

I ended up taking off theat side part b/c she could open the door that was right there and get out so now she just has the big tall part.

I made my guinea pig cage out of them, and the outdoor playpen. I got mine at Target - they're called "wire storage organize-it." They're over by the hardware. It's $11 a package (well worth it!)

    here's the pen I made:

I don't have a photo of the pig's to show you though... but for the cage you need to put down a bottom. like cali and rottie said. the coroplast is kind of hard to find though, and it isn't cheap (it cost me $35), but for the size cage you can make it's worth it!

Rats (and Ferrets) can fit through such large holes, they do not make good cages for them.

    But

    They make WONDERFUL rabit cages!!

They're very nicely priced these days. Back when we started building Thelmer's cage, they were closer to $20 a package.

So would a cage like RottieLuver's be okay for Charlie?? I just want something simple, and I can attach a few sticks so she can be outside.

Is Charlie a piggie or a bunny? If he's a bunny, make sure to give him a couple of levels to jump up on. If he's a piggie, don't worry about giving him anything more than a ground floor.

Although pigs can enjoy a second story too! Mine have one, and practically spend more time up there than on the bottom level.
