Bring New Cat Home Today! What kind of litter??

What kind of litter is best? Something less dusty and not to smelly (perfumey) would be good. I saw one that claims it is the only one recommended by the Humane Society. Is it any good?

I pick up my new kitty cat today from the vet - the shelter is to take her there today to get fixed. I cat proofed my house yesterday and got all the necessary stuff for her. Can't wait!! Debbie

I like arm and hammer clumping. I bought some crystals from target and I can't stand it!

I use Tidy Cat but I think it's a bit dusty and could be considered a little perfumey.

Several here on the board swear by Fresh Step. I plan to switch to it someday in the near the future (when my Tidy Cat supply has run out).

Congrats on your new kitty. I'd love to see pictures.

I've been using Tidy Cat also, but I'm in the process of switching myself. My most recent purchase has been what I think is Petsmart's "house" brand. I don't remember the name of it but what I liked about it is that it comes in "unscented" form. I just can't stand all those perfumey ones they come up with so I can't imagine how T & P can handle it. Everytime I scoop I just about gag from perfumey smell that arises. Hard to believe, but I'd much rather smell a normal litter box smell than all that perfume. I have no idea how this stuff clumps up because I'm still using up the stinky Tidy Cat stuff, but I thought I'd give it a try.....

I started Julie out with Fresh Step as soon as she came home with us and she does very well with it. I find keeping her box clean is very easy since it is clumping litter.

We had a thread on this subject a while back. You can take a look at it:

If you want something not dusty, I'd recommend a scoopable litter, not clay litter. I use Fresh Step scoopable litter.

    Good Luck!

Scoop Away clumping pleases many a resident and foster cat.
    (not for small kittens)

Had a bad experience with Feline Pine.
