Thanksgiving Kitten

Well I have some exciting news!!! On Tuesday before Thanksgiving, I was on my way to Walmart and in the distance I saw a small black cat cross the busy street into the Walmart parking lot. After I completed my shopping, I heard a small "mew" and the same tiny kitten came up to me and jumped on my leg. I picked her up and she tucked her little head into my shoulder and started purring loudly. She sure planned her strategy right picking the cat lover in the parking lot.

I was lucky to get my vet to see her that afternoon but her test results would not be available until morning. The vet said that she was about 10 weeks old and most likely abandoned by her mother. He also said that she probably would not have survived the cold night we had (she is very skinny). I did bring her home and sequestered her in the guest bedroom. Cougie, Fester, and Max could her her meowing and stood vigil outside the door. On Wednesday we got the clean bill of health but it was not until Thursday that we let her out into the house. Cougie and Fester were not pleased and refused to talk to us, retreating under the bed. Max was more curious and they played for awhile.

After discussing it, we decided that we will keep the little one. We are currently thinking of names. She purrs non stop (the vet could not even hear her heartbeat because of her purr and she is so sweet!!!! The only problem is now we are dealing with kitten hood and all the joys (and terrors) of it all!!! Wish us luck!

Congratulations on the new addition! Maybe you could name her TG for Thanksgiving! Or does that sound too boyish?

Or Gracie, as in gracias, which is Spanish for thank you!

I have read on this board and other cat message boards how a kitten or cat will often come to someone whom (they instintively) know will take them in and give them a home. What puzzles me is how do they know? Your related story is all the more unique, because of all the people and cars in the parking lot, why did this little orphan kitty know you are the one, came running across the street and then found you? This is truly amazing!

Hey......that was the name I was going to suggest! I still think it's a good one, even if it is a female, you know like the English name Wallace- that can be either a male or female name. Then Wally for short.

Also there was a movie called "Where the Heart is" with Ashely Judd. In the movie there was a young girl who had a baby while she was living temperarely in a Walmart store, and they called the baby 'the Walmart baby' (in the press anyway). I can't remember what they ended up naming her right now.

lol thanks everyone for the great ideas! I have written them all down and we will choose soon. We all like Gracias and it would fit so well for a New Mexican kitty! I also like Macy and yes, we were thinking about a thanksgiving or walmart themed name. John wants to name her "Scratchy" after the cat on the Simpsons since she is all black.

And Wayne, you are so right. That parking lot was packed with people and she must have been under my car for awhile. I spent about 40 minutes in the store and I actually parked at the other end of the parking lot from where I saw here so she had to work her way down to my car!

She is doing well! Only Maximus has accepted her. Cougie and Fester hiss like mad and they are not pleased with us. Whenever we go near them they run away. Very unusual for them and I am a bit hurt by their rejection.
I have to train her since she is a typical kitten in a new house. I had to get the water bottle out and squirt her when she gets on the stove or kitchen counter. But she is so sweet and loving! Hopefully I'll have picture of my family on here or Peaceful Purrs soon!
