Do I bring flowers?

As I posted in an earlier thread....This wasn't a very good day!
I am going to my friends, cousins funeral tommorrow morning. What I was wondering is: I didn't know her cousin but know my dear friend was so VERY CLOSE to him that they were almost like brother & sister. I am going for my friends sake of course but, is it appropriate to take flowers or do most people just donate money or not take anything at all?
In the past, I've always had this tradition of giving the person I know, 1 red rose that they can use however they wish! Usually they end up putting on the deceased but, do I do this in this circumstance?

I always just take a card with a note. But if you've always taken a rose, I don't see anything wrong with that.
