Wow! Major and I have been having quite the day today! We're both pooped right now.
Let me start out by saying how much I love that guy. He lets me do virtually anything. It seems like it is possible to train him *anything*...he might not want to do it (come, stay) but he'll at least know it, and do it sometimes.
Right now he knows:
Sit
Shake
Other (other paw)
Both (both paws)
Down
Bang
Rollover
Leave It
Drop It
Stay
Come (usually)
The only thing he really won't let me do is put a biscuit on his nose....we're still working on that.
This is what we've done today so far:
He got a really good brush.(he gets bribed with treats)
I brushed his teeth (he's quite good with that nowbut still learning)
Clipped his nails (he's a perfect angel!)
Filed his nails (doesn't like it, but puts up with it!)
And I put the vet tag on his collar that I've been putting off...so now he has an ID one and a vaccination one
He has gotten a LOT of treats today for putting up with stuff
I cleaned all the poo from the yard
He went for a walk. He is GREAT on walks. I remember when I first got him he practically choked himselfThat's when I realized something had to be done. So, thanks to your suggestions of turning around once he gets ahead of you, he was great. Although, his only problem was if he saw a person, 80% of the time he'd try to go see them, and with dogs/cats he just lunged (what can I say? He's friendly!)
So, today on our walk he was good except when we passed a puppy and a person, 2 seconds (literally) later, the neighbors big dog, 10 seconds later, 4 more people. I decided to try the Halti again.
So...I put it on him, in the yard and he just went nutsHe rolled around trying to get it off for at least 10-15 minutes. I tried walking him around the yard but he wasn't doing so well, so I took him in the front. He did a little better, so I went on the road. We went for a walk, and he was sooo good with it! He never lunged at the dog that he always does, and I went by him twice to make sure! That's the best $20 I've ever spent...!
Also, lately we've been leaving the front gate open, and we put him on his cable, and he goes outSo now for some of the time he has more room to see! At first I thought it would be a horrible idea because he'd try to lunge at everyone. But he just walks around a bit and lies down to watch people! Now, if he sees someone coming in the yard, he'll lunge, which is why I need to get him a harness (he grew out of the other one) But he is so good!
Did I mention he rarely barks at night anymore?
I truly have been blessed!
What else is planned for the day? Oh..the usual, and if it doesn't rain, a much needed bath!![]()
