*sigh*
The problem with Popcorn is he's too brave and fearless, and will do ANYTHING, even if it means hurting himself. Muffin is the total opposite. She's VERY cautious and would never do anything that she thinks could possibly hurt herself.
Here's what happened.
The tiels were their normal, hyper, spunky selves this morning, as they are every morning. I opened their cage door to let them come out and play, and then went to get a bowl of cereal. (The kitchen and family room are joined so I was still able to watch them). The tiels have a big ladder that goes from their cage to the floor, and they always use it to get down safely.
As I was pouring milk in my cereal, I saw Popcorn get out and climb to the top of his cage. Then, suddenly, he gets this huge smile across his face and JUMPS down, from the top.......which is about a 4 ft jump. Of course he doesn't know how to fly, so he ended up falling instead of gliding, which he may have intended to do. He acted like nothing happened, didn't make a sound, and got up, climbed back up his ladder, and went back to the top of his cage. Then he started singing. He was acting perfectly normal and jolly, so assumed he was fine, but went to check on him anyway. What did I see? BLOOD! He was bleeding at the edge of his wing, and that blood had stained his stomach feathers too, so it looked like a considerable amount. I freaked out. I had never seen him bleed like that before. And what was he doing? Singing like nothing happened.
I picked him up, held him like a ball, and gently opened his wings to check where he was bleeding from, and how much. Then I took him to the bathroom to wash the wound, and the blood stains on his feathers. The blood stopped quickly, thank God. I put corn starch on his wound to prevent it from bleeding anymore. This happened about an hour ago, and its not bleeding, so hopefully he'll be fine. I'm watching him like a hawk though, to make sure he doesn't bleed anymore. If he does, then I guess its off to the vet. It doesn't seem like it will bleed anymore though, so I doubt we'll have to go.
Now he's sitting here with me, quietly perched on my shoulder, while I lecture him about his naw-tee-ness, and how he can hurt himself if he doesn't stop being so naw-tee. *sigh* When will he ever learn?
Please say a little prayer that Popcorn's wound heals up quickly. Thank God he's perfectly fine, but you know how the little things that happen to pets can stress their moms out so bad.![]()
