More despicable acts

It seems like here in the last few days, too many of these stories have been showing up on the boards:

I sometimes feel like we're preaching to the choir when we post and express our outrage of these acts here on this message board, but hopefully any newcomers and lurkers who are still blissfully unaware how our furred friends are so often the victims of such cruelty will be spurred into action the way we all have been, in our various ways. If there is any follow up story, I'll be sure and post it.

Of course, if the parents of Queso had been spayed and neutered, or if Queso had never been dumped or born feral, whichever was the case, he wouldn't have been available to be the object of these subhuman neanderthals who were bored and too stupid to find something constructive to do.

The lack of remorse leaves me with a disturbing feeling. One of the students said he was sorry for what he had brought on his family, friends, his school, etc. What about being sorry for what he did to that cat? In keeping with the school's strict standards, I would certainly think a more severe punishment should be in order. What these two students did is very, very sick!!!

That's awful! I hate people who think that the earth exists for them to do whatever the please with it. There was an incident close to where I live involving a dog. It wasn't quite as graphic, but in short, it was a homeless puppy, someone dressed it up in a Toronto Maple Leafs jersey, and shot and killed it. There is a cat on burnerkitty.com that was found with a nail driven through it's head. That was in Ottawa too. Fortunately, she survived and is now living with a loving family. But who do people think they are??!!! Everyone gets in a big upheavel if a person hurts a person, but not much fuss gets made about someone inflicting horrors on an animal. It is called human imperialism.

It makes my stomach turn to think that there are such cruel and heartless people in this world.
I agree with Pam, why is it that people are less concerned when an animal is abused than when a person is? They feel pain and distress just as we do and they need protection from criminals just like we do. People who abuse animals are disturbed and dangerous and should be considered a threat to society, as they often go on to commit crimes against people as well.

It's funny and ironic because I've heard "some" people (those who aren't so crazy about animals) criticize pet and animal lovers about how they seem to care MORE about animals than humans--that they raise more of a fuss or take more immediate action when they hear that a cat has been abused than when a child has been abused. This is a ridiculous claim. *NO* living creature, animal or human, deserves to be treated cruelly or tortured. I think any person with a heart, or who can experience empathy, would raise an alarm and act when any horrible abuse or murder is discovered. It is our responsibility as a civilized society not to let such occurrences be ignored--what if it happened to one of us and no one bothered to care or to come to our rescue? We also have a responsibility to show the offenders that what they did is morally WRONG and they should be punished. Of course not to the extent that the offenders' lives or futures are ruined (although sometimes we may wish that deep down!), but they should know that there is a serious penalty for such offensive and unacceptable behavior.

Unacceptable behavior is exactly what it is!
Cat, dog,whatever, the way in which the killing was done is unacceptable behavior. One does not take an animal and cut it's head off for fun! This is sick behavior, those boys should be examined by a doctor . They need pychological help! These are grown men!
I have known guys at my husband's work that use to use stray cats as target practice. I threatened to call the police and they quit.
This has (almost) nothing to do with animal rights, these types of people are sick. It is not normal to want to kill or hurt living creatures other than for the sole aspect of hunting for food ( in which true hunters use weapons that inflict very little pain and kill instantly).

As for the school, they should have enough sense and dignity to identify that these students are mentally sick and kick their ugly *&$#* out!!!!

I'm sure ya'll are getting tired of me voice my opinion about how sick and twisted people can be, but it's just so sad that there are so many of them out there! It's just something that hits a nerve and I get so sick and angry when I see stories of this.
Pam, I agree. I don't think it's right for people to trash the earth and the living things on it. It's sad that because of people, environments have changed, animals have become extinct, cruelty exists... Margaret, you mentioned those people who get all bent out of shape when people get upset when animals are abused and think that we care more about animals than people. I agree...this is stupid, and it just shows their ignorance. I doubt that people like that donate to people charities. On another board that I visit, someone said...the reason why there are so many animal charities, rescues and etc...is because of people. The animals can't help themselves...but people can.

Ok, I'll get of my soapbox right now, but I will say that I agree with everything that has been said here...I only wish there was something more that I could do...

P.S. I love you guys!! It's nice to be in the company of friends that feel the same way I do about issues...and of course, love their pets as much as I do!

at the risk of sounding heartless and/or politically incorrect, I agree with you -it's not that the animals' lives are more precious to me than peoples', it's just that the animals are so completely innocent and ingorant - they are totally at the mercy of man. Of course, most children are in this category, too.

The last thing anyone could call me is heartless. A boy who was a classmate of my son's was killed Saturday night. I never met him, but I still grieve over the tragic and senseless loss. Not to diminish his life or cast aspersions, but he was killed when he decided to take a shortcut and cross an eight lane freeway at night. In other words, he foolishly took his life into his own hands, made a reckless choice, and paid with his life, never getting another chance. I cry anyway. But these little animals don't even have the choice to make a foolish decision, yet they pay with their lives also. So, yes, I cry for Queso as much as I cry for Jonathan. It doesn't mean than any one life is more precious than another, it's that the circumstances are different.

I have a very active "Political Correctness" monitor (I HATE PCness!!) and what you wrote did not strike me as PC at all. You're right, what it is, is that little kitties and puppies and cows and whatever don't make the bad decisions that ultimately hurt them, it is humans. I just hate it when they make decisions that harm little animals who don't have choices!

Please stop, please, I can't take it, I'm too soft. It happens everywhere, including here. I actually broke down when I saw something so cruel on BBC news, my God, I have absolutely no comprehension of the ones who commit such acts. I try to comfort myself telling myself what goes around comes around, because as far as I'm concerned: prison & fine? nah, that's not good enough!!!
Btw, I wrote mail to the paper regarding Queso, it was a stinker I wonder will anyone even read it.....G! >^..^<

I agree with all of you. I just dont't understand how people would even come up with those ideas. I just hope I will never have to witness any of this otherwise I would not be responsible for my actions.

As a lot of you said, the thing that angers me is that these twisted people always take it out on creatures who do not even have a chance to defend themselves.

*hugs* to all of you. I hope I didn't offend anyone with my post! I guess all we can do is ban together and do all we can to help stamp out violence (to animals and people!) It's not that animal cruelty is more important, it's that it's just as important to that of child/spousal/human abuse and needs to be addressed as such.

4Feline, your story made me think about something that happened on a street close to my home a couple of months ago. A couple of teenage kids were killed in a camaro when they ran off the road and hit a pole, I think it was. The driver had just gotten his license and the car was just too powerful and they were going too fast. A very common story, unfortunately. I was heartbroken when I heard that story. I feel so sad and helpless when I hear stories like this about young lives so carelessly lost. Whenever I drive by that spot where the fatal accident occurred, there are always fresh flowers and a cross placed where the kids died. It is sad, and I know what you mean about the circumstances being different. I cry for stuff like this, I cry for the abused animals...but in different ways and for different reasons.

Me? I worked voluntary in a shelter for a while...cruelty cases? OMG!!! I just had to leave, my DH noticed a change in me, a withdrawal of sorts, an attitude change. So now I take in individual cases, and bring them to their physical optimum, if I can. I suppose it could be called Ego on my part by some, and maybe it is, the slap on the back is the day you look at that trusting critter and think, the work paid off, he's better now! I do it because I can't walk away. You guys are so right, the word for animals is inocence. Offended? nah. cruelty is offensive.

I love this place!! It's like having a bunch of pen friends all in one location from around the world! It's great for me too, because being in a new place, I don't know too many people...let alone pet fanatics!!
Gina, *hugs* to you for doing volunteer work and now individual cases. It's such a rewarding experience. It's been said so many times, we can't save them all...but one at a time. It's true, but each time we save a life, and socialize a kitty and adopt it to a new home, I feel so proud to think that I helped in saving that life...
