Does anyone out there know where a cat's purring motor is located? When my cats lay on me it feels like it is under them (in their chests) and when I scratch them under their necks it feels like it's in their throats.

Hi Pam,
I think it's somewhere between their palate and throat, not sure... Somewhere I've read that nobody really knows!
I was watching a program on the Discorvery Channel about cats. They did one about where there purring motor was. It's kinda like (they had pictures duh so this si gonna be odd..... bear with me) where they breath in thru there nose the piping meet up with there (I'm haveing a blonde moment I can't think of it's name but where there food goes down.......~blonde~)
ANYWAY
they meet up & there a flapp thats controled by lil bitty muscels, so when they want to pur they'll flap the flap (thats adult tearmonology). but..... its that flap that moves quickly that makes them pur. & It's in the throught....... but that just what was on D.C. ~~
Don't know the technical answer, but when my Pieper is really really happy and sitting on my lap or in my arms purring, sometimes she snorts! Has anyone else's done that? I think it's just hilarious...she always looks so surprised!

If a cat spoke, it would say things like, "Hey, I don't see a problem here!"
