ideas needed

Does anyone have any creative ideas for keeping a room off-limits to cats without closing the door? I live in a pretty small place with a dog and two cats, and due to a recent, uncharacteristic tendency my cat has developed for peeing on my bed , I need to be able to close the bedroom door without closing them off to an air-conditioning unit in that room. (The cat has been checked for medical problems, and the story would be much longer if I explained exactly why there's no other solution than the one I've come up with.) So, again, the question is--any good ideas for cat-proofing a doorway without shutting the door? Thanks for any ideas or advice.

What about a "baby" gate? You can buy either the wooden or plastic kind, depending on your decorating style, or your cat's leaping ability! Plenty of holes so he can still see through, and the whole top is open so it won't make your small place seem even smaller like a whole door would!

I don't think the baby gate thing would work, Karen. I have a baby gate in front of the cat room so the dogs can't get at the litter boxes. The cats jump over no problem. 2 on top of each other might be high enough if the cats aren't big jumpers.

Well what my brother did to keep his cats out of the babies room, but wanted to still see the baby is... he got an old door cut a big hole and put a full length screen in it... the air conditioning could still come through the screen and the bedroom door kept shut. .. Also double sided sticky tape, the thick stuff about 2" put arround your bed ends might work.. if you put it on tin foil, or paper.. (may cats hate tin foil).. when he jumps up on your bed the sticky tape would stick to his feet and he would jump down...I don't know what you did to your cat but I think he is pissed off with you... my guy peed on my drapes right in front of me.. I wouldn't let him out, he walked over to the drapes, looked at me right in the eyes and sprayed... who knows what goes on in their minds and why they do somethings... I hope the screen door idea will work for you.. good luck

Only thing I can think of is to protect the bed. First of all maybe get another mattress so they won't gravitate to peeing where they did previously, then cover it with a plastic tarp or something like that. It is pretty hard to keep them out and let the air conditioning escape into another room unless you have some kind of a vent installed for the air conditioning or buy a small air conditioner for them to be used in another room. Hopefully the situation will get better when the weather is
cooler. Rooms we don't want the cats to enter we close the door and if they scratch on that door we tack a piece of carpet remnant or sample on the door and they scratch that. Either that or guard the door and prevent scratching until they get the message. Easier with the scratching pad on the door, but this probably won't help your situation much except in cooler weather.
