    I have the BEST vet!!!

I'll admit it. I am in LOVE with my vet, "Dr. Paul." Sweet, gentle, patient, calm and reassuring. Never too busy to give you 100% of his attention, and as MUCH time as you need, to discuss your fur kids' issues, no matter how small. He "treats" the human as much as the fur patient! Oh, did I mention how incredibly knowledgeable and skilled he is? And, he will call you back on the phone, anytime, day or night, no matter how minor the question! Once he called me back at 10pm about a diet question, and apologized profusely for making ME wait so long for a reply!!! He was in emergency surgery!! But, I stray.

Today all of the above qualities and more were re-enforced in spades. I was at the office to pick up a prescription for Cody. I was talking with the office assistants and mentioned my fear of perhaps someday having to board the "kids." They have a boarding kennel there, and offered to show me around to reassure me how lovely the accomodations are!! I mentioned that my kitty Mr. B has asthma and wondered if he would be watched closely enough. Well, they have a special section in the kitty kennel for those with "special needs" where they are observed very closely. I looked around, and in the far corner crate lay the MOST adorable, tiny little kitten named Pidge all curled up in ball!!

White and grey and salmon colored. SO tiny!! They let me pick him up and I noticed his little front paws were "pigeon" toed!! Seems he has a congential joint deformity!! But that doesn't keep Pidge from being frisky and playful! I asked whose kitty he was. They told me he was the "office" kitty. No known guardian! Seems Dr. Paul found little Pidge, only weeks old, wandering on the roadside by the hospital. He took little Pidge in and examined him. Seems that, besides his joint problems, he also has an esophageal deformity that prevents him from eating most solid foods. They are feeding him special formula and blended solids. And when he is old enough, Dr. Paul is going to perform corrective surgery on his esophagus and put him up for adoption to one of the many hospital clients and workers who are standing in line to adopt him. But the kennel assist. says that is if Dr. Paul doesn't adopt Pidge himself! I am so lucky to have Dr. Paul as my vet!"

It is so nice to hear how responsive and thoughtful your vet is. How wonderful of you to write a 'verbal bouquet' for him. Thanks. It cheered me up to read your comments.

Blessing on you for writing and him for being such a great care-giver!

Sandra, he sounds like a dream!! Does he have a wife??? I'm just joking...LOL! But what a wonderful man. I feel the exact same way about my vet, and I think that is so important!

Pidge sounds like a real winner too! I thought for a minute, while I was reading, that you were going to adopt her!!!

I'm also extremely lucky with my vet. When I moved in the area I was very wary about changing vets since the practice I used before was also very good. But the vet I have now is at less than 5 minutes walk from me so I decided to try. I'm so pleased I did. He is a very nice and compassionate man who clearly adores animals. When we had to put Gigio to sleep he was wonderful. Prema, also due to the accident she had before I adopted her, has slighly deformed paws and often her nails become ingrown, she becomes a cat possessed if I try to cut them but she stays still when the vet does it, so I tend to take her there and he never charges me for it. He also goes to my sister's house (she lives in the same neighbourhood) for her 3 cats yearly shots since one of hers is so scared at no extra cost.

If a stry is brought in he will either split the costs or if the person can't afford it he is more than willing to bear all the costs.

There is only 1 thing I didn't like... he wanted to keep Foxy the first time I took him there!

This lifted my spirits big time - wish there were more Dr. Paul's out there. I have 3 vets (all women) whom I'm very impressed with so far. My last vet was a money mad SOB (excuse my French). Every time I brought in one of my cats he immediatley wanted to do thorough blood work at 100.00 a pop and when I didn't want that he would make me feel so guilty. These ladies I'm dealing with now are all willing to try a couple remedies before going into expensive blood work to solve a health problem so I feel so much more comfortable with them. Besides they all have such a cool bed side manner and there office is much closer to home.

It means a lot when a vet seems much more concerned about an animal's well being instead of the $$$$$

I loved reading this, it is SO nice to see that there are people in this world that care more for life than the mighty buck. Very, very nice. Thanks!

    tatsxxx11,

I'm switching vets and would appreciate to know which town on the cape Dr. Pauls office is. I live in Hyannis and go to Vet Associates. It would be a pleasant change from the big place I go to now. I've been there several times and haven't had the same vet twice. Thanks in advance!

OMG!!! A fellow Pet Talker lives only minutes from me!! "Dr. Paul" is Dr. Paul McCartin at Hyannis Animal Hospital on Willow Street. They have 4 vets there, 2 women, 2 men. They are all great, but Dr. McCartin is the BEST!!! You can ask for any of the vets' when you go for a visit, any time. I'll email you with the rest of the info. Would love to hear all about your fur creatures! Sandra

Sandra, I just now read this post....your vet sounds AMAZING! A true animal lover! So often, they become 'numb' to our beloved furkids, but this man sounds amazing To bad all vets aren't like him! You are lucky to have a vet that wonderful in your area!!! Pidge sounds like a cutie, too. He was lucky to have found "Dr. Paul" that day

That is so great that your vet is so sweet. Our vet is similar. When Samantha was so sick she was at her vet and he kept calling me asking all kinds of questions. He was so kind when she passed on to. He knew it was hard for us. He gave me a hug and said call me if you need to talk. It is nice to know that their are doctors out there for the love of helping instead of the money.

Don't know if you are interested ...

Petwarmers website is holding a 'Best Vet' contest. I thought of you when I saw it. If you are interested, see the first (or second?) paragraph on this link. Petwarmers -- Vet contest
