    Hide and seek

Okay my cat has ear mites and when ever it's time to give her medication she runs away and I have to find her. Well I do catch her some times and then she claws me to deth. But anyway what can do so she dosn't run away all the time?

You're going to have to get her when she is curled up, sleeping, probably. Hold her front legs together and put her in your lap. If you have two people, it will probably be easier for one to hold and the other to put the medicine in the ears. Make sure you massage the ears so that the medicine gets thoroughly applied. Then, get back, because they will shake their heads and sling that medicine everywhere! Ear mite medication seems tough to apply, but to me it is no where as bad as trying to give a cat liquid antibiotics or a pill! I'm alone, so I have to do it by myself. Mimi's claws are lethal, so I have to be so careful! Good luck!

Was there some reason you were relunctant to allow the Ivomect injection? It's relatively inexpensive (cheaper than the drops if you can never get them in) and usually requires only 1 treatment.

I'm so glad to hear that my suggestion worked! What did you end up doing? I assume you caught the cat sleeping and did the "dirty deed". Anyway, congratulations! Been there, done that!!!

I am so lucky that my cat, Foggy, who is on thyroid pills, just allows me to drop it into the back of her mouth, and then she swallows the pill. Doing this twice a day any other way would be torture.....on me!

Sprocket got into a bad fight once and I had to give him some meds from the vet ... I found that if I wrapped him in towel ... and held his front paws with his butt under my arm that worked !! After I was done, though he would run off .. and hide in the basement!!

Crazycat - it sounds like you were playing the bagpipes!

My cat Joe, also has to have daily medication to cope with his hyperactive immune system. He doesn't like his pills, but he will allow me to dose him without much fuss...although very occasionally I'll find the odd pill around the house - cunningly disgarded while I'm not looking

We once had a Burmese that was such a tiger (which is hard to imagine from this gentle breed) that we had to wrap her in a towel and place her in a large gumboot (New Zealand slang for rubber farm boots, aka. wellingtons). She didn't mind the whole process and she did look very sweet with her little black head sticking up out of a large black boot...
