Dessi was my beautiful labrador for over 13 years. She died peacefully in her sleep almost exactly one year ago. She was the love of my life ever since 3rd grade and will always have a special place in my heart.

Dessi was very old when I found my cat, Shiloh. I brought the kitten into the home and Dessi was really tolerant and loving even though she had been an only pet for 13 years. Shiloh liked to bat at Dessi's tail which made her a bit nervous. Sometimes Dessi would yelp and run across the house away from the Shiloh. The cat never hurt her but she wasn't used to sharing her home with a kitten yet. It warmed my heart when I often found them snuggled sleeping together.

I believe Shiloh was a gift from God to help me deal with the death of my beautiful Dessi. I love them both and I'll post a pic of them together.

what a cute pair they are. i have a cat, 2 turtles and 2 birds. my cat loves the turtles and always follows them around. More so, the cat loves getting into the sand filled turtle cage which gets uncovered when I'm cleaning it. Well, i don't have to tell you the story of the birds again, i've posted it before. But i'm sure you can imagine what they're like together.
oh yeah, and the fish tank. well, my cat hasn't discovered how much fun it is to jump ontop of it yet. he's probably too distracted w/ the birds.

Aly what a precious story and such beautiful pets. You were doubly blessed! When I got my first cat 8 years ago he came into a home with two very established dogs (one was 9 years old and one was 6) and they were also very tolerant of him even though they could have made a snack of him just like Dessi could have. My household has changed since then. My dogs have gone on to the Rainbow Bridge and we now have an additional cat and just brought a puppy into our home. I am hoping for the day when they might all become great pals like your beautiful Dessi and Shiloh. You are right....animals are a gift from God and we are so lucky to be able to share our lives with them! Thank you for a wonderful story and picture!

Where did the Rainbow Bridge come from, anyway? I've seen it posted here before.

    Ben,
Rainbow Bridge is like a pet heaven. I don't know where the idea originally came from, but I heard of it from a pet website called Dobe-House.

The Rainbow Bridge is actually an old Norse legend, which pleases the Scandinavian side of me!

    Aly,
I really like the picture of your pets! Thanks for posting it and sharing your story! I'll soon have a picture of Boogie on my computer, and I'll post it (I'm anxious to show him off!) as soon as I can. But, he still has his own webpage, and has a picture on it. Please visit him! Here it is: http://pets.burnerkitty.com/1871/
    Thanks,

Here's my 26 year old box turtle, Igor. He is baby sitting little Zezu. Zezu is now 7 months old. He was something like 8 weeks old in the pic. They get along great. although, I 'm still afraid to leave them alone together. Zezu does use his paw on him to get him to walk. Zezu is getting bigger too. I also have a 4 or 5 year old box turtle. so cute. no pics of her yet.

next pic is of my birds. that's another story all together. you'll never see a picture of the birds and zezu together. it was a bad idea to buy both. but i've devised a way to keep them away from each other.

They are spice finches, names: Basil and Papi. I've had them two years. No idea how old they are. Don't know if their male or female. How do you tell? I can only tell them apart by marking on one of their beaks. They're always singing and useing their swing. They are relativly quiet. They're deathly afraid of Zezu. Basil was caught once in the jaws of Zezu. I saved him. Thank God that Zezu was a kitten. He ran off with his prize for almost 5 min. till I caught him and pried his jaws open.

Oh Aly, the picture of Dessi and Shiloh is so beautiful. I cried when I read your story. My beautiful, my most beloved yellow lab Jingles left for the Rainbow Bridge 2 yrs. ago. She was best friends with my two cats Tuna and Chessa, and later, after my precious Chessa passed, another kitty "Tuna." I do believe that Shiloh was heaven sent. That hole that is left when we lose a furkid is so big and the love of another furbaby, I have found, has always helped me to cope. I think Dessi is so beautiful. I know Dessi and Jing are together, doing all those naughty labbie things!! The pic. of them together is so precious, and brings back many memories...
