    kitty GPS? missing cat

I have a 3 year old spayed female cat who lives in the horse barn. she's an "outdoor cat", but comes in the heated/air conditioned lounge every night to sleep in her kitty bed. she's always hanging out with us humans, "helping" us do chores. she loves to sleep in the hay in the afternoons.
monday she was napping on a load of hay, not knowing that the hay had been sold and was heading elsewhere. no one saw her on the hay wagon until it pulled up in front of the neighbor's barn, 8 miles away from kitty's home. i'm glad she didn't jump off while the wagon was in motion! but when it did finally stop, we saw her bolt off the hay and head for the hills. we called for her for 2 days, but haven't seen her since. has anyone out there had a similar experience and actually had their kitty find their way home? how good is "kitty GPS"? or does anyone think she might turn up at the hay-buyer's house? we all really miss her, but feel helpless! other than telling the neighbors and the humane society to keep their eyes open for her, i don't know what to do!

Welcome To PetTalk! I'd try going back and putting catnip & food down daily in one place. Or at least ask the people who got the hay delivery if they would be kind enough to do so every day. It's possible she's so scared she's still in the same area. It's best though if there's a way you can get there daily and call her in your normal 'come eat' voice. She will recognize your voice and hopefully you'll find the poor girl. She must be sooo scared and frightened to find herself in an unfamiliar place. Keep us posted please. Jan

Another reason to have your cat microchipped, although they can't send out a GPS signal (yet). Perhaps in the next version? I dunno, but it might be a good idea. I hope your kitty is returned safely! Prayers going out your way.

    your voice is best!

If you can't get out there at least once a day, is there a way you can tape record your voice calling her that the people can play frequently? she may hear it and not come out for several hours or days out of the anxiety she is experiencing! Poor gal.. keep us posted!

    pixie -
thanks for the idea. we've been going out there every other day and checking for her ourselves. i just have a gut feeling that she's on her way home. does anyone out there think that might be the case? i know cats are suposed to be good at finding their bearings and getting home on their own. but under these circumstances?... i guess i have to keep hoping.
    thanks again, eveyone.
