URGENT!! Shelter closing in TN and will have to euth 160+ animals if not placed!!

Here is the email I got this afternoon. I'm working on it. I have a couple of places taking some dogs...any other takers???

Hi everybody. I am sending this to everyone I know or have ever emailed, so some of you may not be near TN at all or even be into rescuing dogs. But forward it to anyone you know who is! This is a very desperate situation!

Due to financial difficulty, Monroe County Volunteer Humane Society is closing its doors and needs to find homes for all 160+ animals in their care ASAP, or they will have to be euthanized.

I helped a friend of mine rescue a puppy from there just a few weeks ago and Laurie, their Director of Operations, was wonderful to work with. They will be greatly missed in the rescue community.

There are MANY more, so please call to see if you can adopt/rescue/foster, or even send a tax-deductible donation to buy these babies some more time!!! If you can't mail a donation, but can send one via PayPal, you can send one to my nonprofit organization and I will forward it on to them!

I'm sure anything you can do would be appreciated. Oh those faces. I'm coordinating a transport from there to my friend Kim in MI. She's taking 5 dogs and then I called a new friend in MN who does transport for various shelters and she is going to see what she can do. I think she's aiming for 10 (at least) I may be doing that transport too. Although I think I will see if my friend Holly in Maine will help me with it.

I asked my mom if we could adopt scottie, but she said no.

She said in times like these, No-kill shelters should step in because they want to save the animals. Let hope she's right

Amber, you're mom is right...no kill shelters ARE stepping up, but, individuals are needed too. My friend Kim in MI is taking Scottie, so you can rest that at least he is safe. My guess is that most if not all will be shipped to no kills all over the country...it's made it all over the yahoo groups in fewer than 2 days. The big adult dogs (especially the hounds) are the ones that I worry about.

This shelter is probably only an hour or so from me. I will start calling some of the local rescues around here tomorrow. Unfortunately the rescue shelter where I adopted two of my cats just shut down their main adoption center at a local pet store. If the lady who ran that hadn't moved to FL last week I know I could get her to help. Drats!
