Well aimed dog bite saves hiker in bear attack
A hiker attacked by a brown bear in a forest in Slovakia has been rescued by his dog after it bit the bear on the backside.
The 42-year-old man, who was not named, was hiking in the Lower Tatra area, east of Bratislava, accompanied by his dog when the fully-grown bear burst from the bushes and bit him.
But the bear was forced to let the man go when the dog sank its teeth into the animal's rump.
The Slovak hiker nevertheless suffered severe injuries to his legs and
shoulder, but his condition is not critical.
There are around 300 wild bears in Slovakia but they rarely attack humans.
