Hi everyone,
So here is the deal..a common tale...My 2 yr old male neutered cat "Joker" and I are leaving our current apartment and moving into another apartment in the same neighbourhood. There is already another cat in this household...Fiesty is an 8yr old male neutured cat with a tendency to live up to his name and be territorial. He has lived with a dog in the past, but never another cat. On RARE occasions, he is known to pee around the apartment for no apparent reason...so I'm not expecting this union to be an easy one from what I've read up on (introducing 2 adult male cats...). Despite Joker's excellent cat social skills with other cats and dogs, he is still and was always the boss of my household. I already know about the tips and techniques of slowly introducing them to one and other and have prepared to probably have to keep him in my new bedroom with his own litter box, food and toys while I'm at work. Here are my questions:
1) Since moving can be stressful enough as is and first cat encounters are usually always bad - Do you think it's pointless to have a 'pre-meeting'...meaning I bring Joker in his cat cage for a short visit a week before my move (which is Aug 1)?
2) The owner of the other cat had put her cat on some anti-anxiety pills the vet prescribed her last time her cat started peeing on her bed and furniture....I read up about this stuff called 'rescue remedy' and wanted to know what your thoughts are on this. We have a feeling this new little brother in the house might activate this bad habit again and would like to avoid the meds if possible....
I know we are in for a lengthy adjustment phase...I just hope it will work out in the long run!!!
