my cat chloe died suddenly

I don't know if anyone has had a similar experience? I am totally gutted, my cat Chloe who was 10 years old died suddenly on Wed 17th March 2004. She had been a little down in the dumps for a couple of days so I made an appointment for her at the local vet on Wed evening. The vet examined Chloe, breathing, ears, eyes, teeth and temperature in fact nose to tail really. The vet said she was a mystery cat and could find no obvious reason for her being down, she did however give her an antiflammitory injection. I took Chloe home and she seemed fine, she ate her tea, had a saucer of milk and a few cat treats and whent out into the garden as normal. Later that evening she retired to bed, I did not notice anything strange that evening appart from her breathing which was slightly more erratic than usual, but as she was laid under the radiator I thought she may have just been a little warm. About 5 hours later she emerged from her bed with severe breathing difficulties, almost as though she was choking, she was unable to get her breath. Chloe staggered around and was foaming from her mouth making a hacking noise, she was in alot of distress and soiled herself before collapsing onto the floor. chloe let out 2 very loud meeows, unlike anything I had ever heard from her before and after the second meeow she died all within the space of around 10 mins of emerging from her bed.
I could'nt afford to have a postmortum done and I am left wondering how my Chloe died so suddenly after being given the all clear from the vet? why the anti inflamm. drug and nothing mentioned as to why she was getting it?
Replys from anyone who has had a similar experience would be greatly appreciated,also any advice on how to cope with losing a pet that after 10 years has become a loving memeber of the family and who's death has left a huge emptyness in my life.

I have never had that particular experience, so I can't comment on that part.

Dealing with the loss of a beloved pet is always difficult. And because she got sick so suddenly, it can make you question yourself. Don't. Chloe wouldn't want you beating yourself up over something you cannot change, would she?

If you have any doubts about the vet, find a new one before getting a new kitty.

I'm sorry to hear you lost your Chloe so suddenly. My friend lost a very young kitty very suddenly and she also couldn't afford a necropsy. Jeremiah most likely had a heart problem that took he quickly. A kitty I adopted died from a heart attack a few years ago. Poor little Beau had such a hard time before he was rescued as a tiny kitten. My guess is maybe Chloe had an underlying heart problem that wasn't detected.

So sorry to hear of your loss. Chloe sounds like she was a really special cat. Her illness and death don't sound familiar to me.

I'm so sorry that your first thread had to be such a tragic one with the loss of your beloved Chloe. You must be heartbroken.

I'm wondering if maybe Chloe had an allergic reaction to the meds the vet gave her. Either that or possible heart problems may caused her sudden death. I would definitely call up your vet and ask for her records and why the anti-inflamm drugs. He/she must have had a reason.

Take comfort in knowing that Chloe loved you very much and knew how much you loved her. I'm sure she's happy, healthy, and romping at the RB now. One day you will meet again. Do you have any pictures to post of your little darling??

Oh I just posted in the Cat Memorial for your beloved Chloe.

How terrible that you had to witness your beloved Chloe pass on like that. I am so heartbroken for you as I had my RB Captain, die in my arms when he had a stroke and I know how that is.
We have all lost one or more of our beloved pets, and we know how you must feel.
Take your time to grieve for your precious Chloe and in time it will get easier as you remember the good times you had together.

As Slick said, you will find we are very supportive and sympathetic when it comes to the loss of a beloved pet.

Grieving for a pet is no different than grieving for a person. They have been a part of your life and loved by you. Time and lots of support will get your through this. We can't help with the time but I can promise you that you will find tons of support here on PetTalk. We really do understand the pain and loss you are feeling.
My heart goes out to you and when you are ready it might be helpful to write all about Chloe in the pet memeorial. You can leave a wonderful tribute to her life with you.

There are a great bunch of people here to help you and support you during this awful time. Just remember, your baby died, KNOWING it was loved. Not nearly enough animals have that. Your baby's time was up, it was time to go... remember the good time, all the love and times you shared with that prescious baby for had for what seem like a brief time.

There is another baby out there somewhere that will select you to love. Be aware and wait for that to come when your grief has healed as best it can. Chloe wouldn't want to to be alone without someone to love you and fill the void her passing has left you with..
