Well, Sunday was a pretty decent day here. So my friend Deedee and I decided to go out to my parents house. My parents have about 23 acres and we took a big walk around the property. Deedee is my girlfriend's 12 year old daughter who likes to come and stay the night with me sometimes. Katie absolutely loves having her come and stay with us! I never let Katie off leash because she is a runner. I mean if she happens to get out the front door she is gone! It scares me to death and this is one thing that drives me crazy about her. Anyways, me and Deedee decided to work with her on this out at my folks since it is wide open field and no one around. We found some really lightweight rope and tied a big long piece onto her collar so we could let her go and also step on the long piece of rope if we had to. Turns out that we didn't do much working with her because we had to much fun running around and taking pictures. I was so nervous at first because Katie would start to run off and I would have Deedee run after her and step on the rope. Deedee runs very fast thats another reason why we tried it...lol. I realized I was being too paranoid and it turned out that Katie was just running around like crazy sniffing everything but would follow along with us and if she went ahead of us she would stop and look back to see if we were there. She scared me a few times by wandering too far away, but we would holler and she would come back. At her slow usual pace I might add. Once I was taking a pic of Deedee in a tree and Katie went through a hole in the old farmers fence that runs down part of the property. She started to take off into the other field and I got so scared. Once again I hollered at her and she stopped and just looked at me. Then I said Katie, NOW! She came running back and had to find the hole again. Which was really cute because she kept sticking her head through the fence and I would have to say "No, thats not it. Its on down the path." She would move down and try to stick her head through again until she found the hole. She was a very good girl and I'm proud of her! I would never attempt this anywhere else. I felt a bit safe being on my parents property in a wide open field with no one around. I know it was still a risk but I just wanted to see how she would do. I knew she would love it and she sure did. My husband wants to go out next time and go on back through the connecting fields. I'm looking forward to that. I will still be using my long lightweight rope though!
Ok, now for some pictures!!
