Luna has just pooped behind the door :-o

During the last couple of weeks, it almost happens EVERY day now that Luna does not use her box, but poops onto the floor in the cat's room or into the hall. I think it always happens when she has peed into the box first; even though the girls have three boxes which are cleaned at least twice a day. Anyway, I don't blame her for that because I know she has these problems with lose stool and diarrhea .

But today, it was really bad. Already when she came into my lap, I could smell she has just done her "big business". When I checked that later, following the smell, I found the poo behind the door to the cat's room, and the bad thing was that when I opened the door to go in, the damage was done to the lower edge of the door (I better do not describe this in detail). Has been a really hard job to clean it, especially since I wasn't able to unhinge the door to give it a proper cleaning.

I'm feeling so sorry for Luna that she has to do these things, I don't think she's feeling very comfortable with that and I wish I could help her somehow!

Is it the food she's eating? We had a serious problem with Allen and loose stool. We changed to Nutro Natural.... Viva La Difference! Do you have that in Germany? He also had rather (ahem) stinky poo and this really helped with that too.

I'm sorry poor Luna is going through all of this. I'm sure she's feeling quite embarassed about it. Has the vet seen her lately?

I really don't envy you having to clean that one.

I wish I had advice for you. I know that you are working with the doctor to help her, and I know that you have gotten some advice from people here. So, I am pretty useless on those fronts.

However, I know this must be difficult. Even though you know she is doing it for medical reasons it is still not easy to deal with.

{{{{Hugs}}}} to you and the girls. I hope that you find the answer soon.

Kirsten, I am no help, as we haven't had these problems with our cats. But I feel for you and for Luna. How horrible for both of you! Good luck in finding an answer.

Kirsten I understand completely! Our litter boxes are in the utility room and so is the back door. Every now and then somebody likes to go outside the box and right in front of the door. We come home from work and open the door right over the top of the poo! Let me tell ya folks cleaning the underside of a door is a real challenge!! The difference with mine is they are not sick and I think it is just a joke on somebody's part!!! I'm sure one of them is sitting there laughing while I'm trying to clean under the door!! BRATS, I TELL YA, THEY ARE BRATS!!!

I hope Luna gets better soon. I'm sure in her case she did it to let you know she is uncomfortable. Poor baby and poor you with having to clean under the door. Maybe through trial and error you will one day find just the right food that doesn't bother her stomach.

Luna was at the vet's office again this afternoon and got a shot which is supposed to cure possible inflammations in the colon tissue. Also, there's another change in her diet now, she'll get nothing else but Hill's r/d now, no i/d is allowed until her colon has recovered. Next week, I'll bring another stool sample to the vet's office.

To those who do not know: Clostridia have been found in her stool last fall, and she's through several antibiotic treatments, but not very successful so far.

She's sleeping in my lap at the moment and looks a bit groggy, most likely from the shot.

Poor poor Luna! I'm sure curling up in meowmies lap will make you feel better. It's a shame that Clostridia is so hard to get rid of. Hope you feel better soon Luna.

Yes, these bacteria really seem to be bad ones!

BTW, catnapper, I never saw this Nutro Natural here...

An update (as posted in Cat Health also):

    Thanks everyone!

I've found out something very interesting today! After Luna got that anti-inflammatory shot yesterday, her stool was NORMAL this morning, plus it's been the first time for many days that she was using her box again!

I haven't changed her diet yet, I first wanted to find out if there would be any improvement by the shot only, 'cause this should give the vet a hint. She's not in her office today, otherwise I would have called her already to tell her, but to me it looks very obvious now that there must have been inflammated areas in Luna's colon already. Clostridia is well-known for causing colitis if untreated and it looks like Luna's colon tissue is already damaged.

I will feed the last can of her old diet today to see what happens, than change her diet as discussed with the vet. On Monday, I will call her again to discuss further treatment. I hope this means we're on the right path now!

Thanks everyone for your support and advice, and for keeping my girl in your thoughts!

    Kirsten
