    Cirrus Needs To Have Surgery

I brought Cirrus into the vet this morning because I thought he had a UTI. I found out that his bladder was very enlarged and distended meaning that his urinary tract had been blocked. The in house urine test showed that he has both struvite and calcium oxalates which are causing blockage. He may also have a slight UTI.

Since he's only 1 1/2 years old and is very difficult to medicate, both my vet and I decided that the best course of treatment would be for him to have a perineal urethrostomy and also put him on special food to help prevent new crystals from forming.I also need to eliminate as much stress as possible meaning that Storm and Cirrus need to be separated as much as possible. The surgery will give him a larger pee hole like that of a female cat. Here's a link that describes the surgery very well http://consumer.vetmedcenter.com/con...FL1EM.xml&dt=A.

My vet has to call in a surgeon and he was going to have his surgery late this afternoon but the surgeon was unable to make it. Now he'll have it tomorrow morning around 11:00am. He also became blocked again while being at the vet so my vet but a catheter in him and he's staying at my vet's overnight. He also had bloodwork done to make sure that his kidneys are functioning properly and an x-ray to make sure that he didn't also have stones.

I know that there are some risks involved and he can have some complications after surgery, but I feel that this is the best way to go for a cat like Cirrus. Please keep him in your thoughts and say some prayers for him. I need all of the support that I can get. I miss him very much and so does Sunny. Thanks in advance.

Poor Cirrus, I am so sorry to hear that you will be having surgery.

I was hoping that the worst that I would hear is that you are going to be having a hard time giving him a pill.

Please give the poor boy a hug for me and agian I am really sorry that this was the news that you got. I am sure that it will make him a much happier kitty in the long run.

Of course, prayers for Cirrus and that the surgery all goes well. Joey says that she hopes he is OK. She understands that it is not fun being in the hospital. Prayers of comfort for you.

Also, {{{HUGS}}} to you. I am know that this is very hard to go thourgh, but with help from the power of PT Prayers all will be OK.

Please give us updates when you can.

BTW I love that page it explained it very well.

Tracey, as you know, Fister has had this operation. I have sent you a PM.

Try not to worry, it will go OK!

I PM'ed you. Let me know if you need anything....more questions, emotional support...anything ---- Meg

P.S. Smokey had the surgery 5 years ago....I have NOT had a problem with him since.....ask you vet about the medicine Methio-Form....it works wonders and is a good addative if Cirrus will not eat the prescription food. Let me know if you need more information on either the surgery or the Methio-Form.

I'm so sorry to hear that Cirrus needs sir jury. I can't even imagine how much of a worry it is for you. Prayers on way and hugs to you.

Oh no! I'm so glad you caught this in time, Tracey, but I'm sorry to hear Cirrus needs the sir jury. Although like you say, it's probably the best course of action for him.

Good thoughts and prayers going out to you, Cirrus and the rest of the gang. Hoping that everything goes well and soon we'll be hearing "cone stories."
