I brought Cirrus into the vet this morning because I thought he had a UTI. I found out that his bladder was very enlarged and distended meaning that his urinary tract had been blocked. The in house urine test showed that he has both struvite and calcium oxalates which are causing blockage. He may also have a slight UTI.![]()
Since he's only 1 1/2 years old and is very difficult to medicate, both my vet and I decided that the best course of treatment would be for him to have a perineal urethrostomy and also put him on special food to help prevent new crystals from forming.I also need to eliminate as much stress as possible meaning that Storm and Cirrus need to be separated as much as possible. The surgery will give him a larger pee hole like that of a female cat. Here's a link that describes the surgery very well http://consumer.vetmedcenter.com/con...FL1EM.xml&dt=A.
My vet has to call in a surgeon and he was going to have his surgery late this afternoon but the surgeon was unable to make it. Now he'll have it tomorrow morning around 11:00am. He also became blocked again while being at the vet so my vet but a catheter in him and he's staying at my vet's overnight. He also had bloodwork done to make sure that his kidneys are functioning properly and an x-ray to make sure that he didn't also have stones.
I know that there are some risks involved and he can have some complications after surgery, but I feel that this is the best way to go for a cat like Cirrus. Please keep him in your thoughts and say some prayers for him. I need all of the support that I can get. I miss him very much and so does Sunny. Thanks in advance.
