    How could they even think about putting a Guide Dog to sleep! People have no sympathy, I tell ya... Poor baby, I hope she finds a home. After all she's done for people, they have the nerve..

    Oh, Thanks Phred. This seemed like an almost unbelieveable situation.

    Here's the *latest*...

    "Joy" is in NO Danger!!

    Although Joy is still in "jail" - it's only temporary!

    I've talked to a LOT of very Nice and Concerned Officials in
    Carroll County, Georgia -
    Including a very helpful Lieutenant in the Carrollton Fire Dept;
    Susan in the County Clerk's Office -
    (who jumped on the radio and spoke with Shelter Manager Gene);
    and just got more info from Sherree' at the Shelter...

    Joy will NOT be PTS - they have had phone calls from all over
    the Country offering help and a new home!

    Her "story" is a bit strange and not quite fully understood;
    but here are the basics:

    She was living with her blind owner - who for unknown reasons could
    no longer keep her. They lived in Virginia.
    Unknown why he didn't contact the Organization where she was trained -
    since they probably would have found her a new home.

    Her Owner "gave" her to someone who now seems to live in Carroll County,
    Georgia. The Georgia "owner" let her run Loose -
    and she was *arrested* by Carroll County Animal Control.

    Her Case Officer somehow managed to piece together her *Tail* and
    DID contact her blind previous owner AND her Vet in Virginia.
    They're now waiting to recieve her Vet Records - and hopefully the Name
    of the Organization that trained her to be a Guide Dog.

    I suggested they contact the Training Organization since "most" of
    the Guide Dog Organizations always bend over backwards to find
    New Homes for their Dogs if the Dog can't stay with their blind person
    for whatever reason.

    So right now - Joy has a warm place to sleep, food, and
    some Very Kind Animal Control Folks to take care of her.

    A "local" Rescue Group is also involved - and will be used if necessary.
    But from what Sherree' said on the phone -
    there will be NO shortage of willing Adopters for Joy!

    Don't know that we'll actually hear what the final outcome is -
    but the Folks *I* talked to assured me that Joy WILL be placed
    in a New Home!

    And keep your eyes out for a New Pet Talker -
    I gave the *invite* to Susan (County Clerk)
    to stop in here!
    Her Family just 'Dopted a Dog!

    Cross your Pawz & Klawz for *Joy* -
    she's earned and deserves a New Home!

    Phred--thanks for taking the time to check up on Joy!!

    I'm glad to hear she is going to be with a loving human soon, and she is being taken care of.

    I can't even imagine how she ended up there??
