Spring Has Sprung...and it's Still Winter!

Kittens, kittens everywhere being born around my area. It's going to be an awful season I suspect as far as births go! I was in a local pet supply store today, and posted on the bulletin board was sign...FREE KITTENS to good homes. ONE DAY OLD. ARGHHH...needless to say, I took the flyer off the board, and was able to contact the person. She sounds like an older woman quite overwhelmed with the situation that's been taking place in her area, an area I'm all too familiar with . The Highland's as they are called is local to me, and is well known for pitbull fighting, cat dumping, and I could go on forever. Not a nice place, but I made some calls, and have a safe home for the mom & kittens, as well as a few others in her yard. This woman is well meaning, but clueless about kittens needing to nurse for at least 7-8 weeks before being adopted. So lucky me has found yet another area to deal with! Another call I got a week ago involving kittens born to a feral at a car dealership. The mom's feral, and in a partially finished house on the property, and luckily not outside. I finally figured out where she had her litter, and though I love a good challenge, this one's out of my league! More phone calls, and a volunteer for another rescue group took a look, and is going to go there in the A.M and cut a hole in the wall to remove the kittens. Hopefully he'll take my suggestion of trapping mom first so not to traumatize her. Best part is..none are coming here, but the networking is going great. My "NO VACANCY" lights are already on.

I'm glad you were in the right place at the right time to take that poster down.
What can I say, but bless you for taking care of this terrible situation as God knows what would have happened to mama and her babies if you weren't there to rescue them. I'm happy that you were able to find them a safe home. You are an angel.
I hope the other rescue for mama and her babies went well also.
Congratulations on a job well done.

You were a savior to mama and her babies. I just wish there were more caring people like you in this world. These kitties have a much brighter future!

Thank you for stepping in and saving these babies .... yes there are hundreds or even thousands more just like them, but every one we help is a tiny miracle in itself!!! Great job!

    Spring Has Sprung.....

The mama & kittens (only 4 out of 5 survived ) were taken into foster care, along with a look-a-like female that has been playing nanny to the kittens, while the mother's taking a break. Turns out the nanny is very pregnant as well, and has been assisiting the real mother cat! So in a few days there will be another litter born, but the kittens will have the added benefit of two mamas caring for them. The kittens in the dealership wall weren't rescued as I thought. It turns out the queen has them behind a brick wall that's part of the house. Four holes were cut into the wall in an attempt to locate the kittens which are now about a month old. A jackhammer would need to be used in order to get them out of this mess. *Sigh*...I knew it wasn't an easy task! Everyone's hoping she'll move the kittens to another area where they can be reached. So it's watch and wait on this family.

    kittens in the wall

    WHAT????
Can't we crawl in and get them? they are living on fiberglass and most likely they and mom have fiberglass in their lungs! Waaaaaaaaa! There's got to be a way to get to them! Think hard- I haven't seen the building, why can't we crawl in the wall?
