A barking Neghbor

Argh...
New neighbors moved in a few days ago and brought along a very loud obnoxious Newfinland. My puppies just got used to (and stopped barking at, thankfully) the neighbors Lab on the right side. This Newfindland HUGE and likes to bash at the fence (a habbit I wouldn't like my dogs to pick up AGAIN). I don't want to make a bad impression but I don't want the neighbors dog or my dogs to get injured. What should I do?

Gosh, Newfies are usually more laid back! Is it young? Maybe it is just bored, and would like to play with your pups?

I would at least go over and introduce yourself and your dogs, ask about the dog, and if they seem nice, ask if he's usually like this, or just upset/adjusting to the move ... that way you can at least learn his/her name, so you can say "Newfname, stop it! Sit!" when s/he starts bashing at the fence.

I would start off slowly, like Karen said. Just introduce yourself, learn a little about the family & dog & share some knowledge on your 1/2 as well. to mention it slowly try saying something like Karen said like "oh i noticed your dog seems a little disturbed by your move"

If he continues to bark & bash after a few weeks, then I would again go over there & in a nice way say something like "geese your dog seems to have a hard time adjusting" maybe offer to reccomened a couple of local reputable obedience class instructors or behavorist. Ask if you can help.

believe me I know this first hand, when I forst got my rott she would bark but ONLY when I was not home, not one of my neighbors have ever said anything to me not once, then one day the local dog warden came a knocking at my door saying how he has had neumeous complaints, luckily he was nice & understood & believed me when I told him I had no clue it was going on as my dog only behaved like that when I was not at home. Luckily I was able to nip that problem in the rear & it is behind us now. But w/ the world nowadays no one has neighbors like they used to, I would of loved to have one of my neighbors come over & tell me what was going on.

I forgot to ask is the newfie bashing your fence? If so I would surely but nicely comment to the neighbors that you are afraid that their dog may break your fence & injure not only himself but your pups too.

We think the Newfie is a female in heat, and my male dobie is having a huge cow. Were going over to the neighbors tomorow...wish me luck!

Marginal luck with the neighbors. Apparantly there isnt one among them that speaks english...
The dog is absolutely beautiful though...she seems to have melowed out a whole lot and has quit her bark bark rutine...
