    Introducing my family

First I would like to say thanks to all who offered help to very slow newbie (that would be me!) Because of your help I was able to get the picture thing figured out. Now I would like to introduce you to my fur family.

This is Sammy (COTD Sept 5). He is 6 years old and a sweety

Next came Leroy. Our neighbor found him in a Kroger parking lot and brought him home. He would sit and stare at us through our front window day after day. He ended up moving in because we couldn't stand it any more! He is a forever kitten and will never grow up! He wears me out, but I wouldn't trade him for the world!

Soon after we got Leroy I started feeding a pregnant feral and the babies began!!! These are the first three rescued about 3 years ago. They were the 3 survivors of a litter of 5. Peanut Butter is a huge wooly cowardly lion! He is about 18 pounds of fluff and love.

This is his very camera shy brother Lucky. When he was a baby he got some kind of illness that was horrible to watch. He couldn't hold his head straight and he walked stiff and would fall over and flop around. It made me sick, but even in that condition we couldn't catch him. The neighbors and my husband and I tried for months. I went to bed crying many nights thinking about him so sick and unable to keep up with his family. One day I left the door propped open (like many other times) and he finally came in! He lived with us for a year and a half before I ever got to touch him. Now he is my lap kitty and has only minor effects left from his illness. It doesn't slow him down much! Now you know how he got his name!

This is Stubby. The only surviving girl of the group. She mantains her girly figure with a 6 to 8 pound weight. She can hold her own with anything that comes along. She is a spitfire!

The next batch came about a year later. We started seeing 4 tiny little faces in the beginning. When it came time for the momma kitty to start bringing them around for solid food there was only 2. One was hit by a car so, of course, the door opened for the little girl who was left alone. After weeks of quiet talks and distant play I am the only one allowed to touch her. She is also very camera shy. I think it is because of her weight! She is so fat that she doesn't want her picture taken!!!
    This is Maggie Sue

Then came the winter babies. We were shocked when we started seeing 5 little furballs in Nov. They were so tiny and it was getting really cold. By Dec. we were freezing with lots of ice and snow. It broke my heart to see those little babies so cold. I put a box on our covered porch with a down comforter and wool blanket, and all the food they could eat. I would watch the 3 that were left pile on top of each other in that box and the wind would be blowing their fur and they would shiver. We tried so hard to catch them. Finally at the end of Jan. we had all three in the house! It was as if someone had lifted a lead weight off of my chest. They are now happy, healthy, and warm!

This is our beautiful but silly Pete (COTD Oct 4)

His wonderfully hilarious brother Pepper Jack

And last, but not least, their beautiful sister Ms. Pervis (before we knew she was a girl we called her nervous Pervis and it stuck) We call her Pervy for short and she was the hardest one to catch. She was worth the effort.

I'm sorry this is so long, but there are so many with their own sad and wonderful stories! I could tell so much more about them and their lives. Don't worry! I'm not! I just wanted to introduce them to you all and thank you for welcoming me into this wonderful world!

    Wow!

Your kitties are all sooooo beautiful! If only there were more people as kind as you, the world would be an amazing place for kitties, puppies and all other creatures to live. I look forward to seeing/hearing more about your cute brood!

Sammy ---- WOW! A cammy coat and green eyes? What a combo!

Welcome to Pet Talk, I think you'll love it!

Beautiful cat family and great photos too.

Did you manage to catch & spay feral mum ?

(As we have several Pet Talk experts who I'm sure would offer advice on how to build and use drop traps etc, in order to catch mum cat)

    and here's Maggie Sue:

I had to do that because my Mitzi is just like that. She was a stray/feral and was SO FAT when they caught her, they thought she was pregnant. She wasn't; she's just has very heavy fur . My small but round, beautiful, fluffy voluptuous Mitzi

The vet weighed her yesterday and she's lost 1/10 of a lb. Down to 11:2 We're aiming for 10 lbs.

Welcome to Pet Talk! What a lovely herd you have. I'm partial to the orangies ... Peanut Butter and Stubby as SO cute and fluffy.

Your Mizi could be my Maggie Sue's sister!!! My Maggie is real small and short legged. I think that is why she looks so...hum...FLUFFY! They are all beautiful no matter what! Mitzi is gorgeous. Thanks for sharing her.

Oh, and as for the question about spaying the feral mom cat, the answer to that would be no. She is as smart as they come. She wont even get in the box that I put on the porch for her. The only way that I finally got her to stay a little warm was to cut the top and front off of the box. We don't see her for weeks or months and then one day she will show up. I never know with her. She has about as much trust as she will ever have with me. She came by the other day and she allowed me to get within a few feet of her. I even held my hand out and she actually stretched her head to me and sniffed my fingers!! That was a huge step!!! I'm hoping to get her in the house and she will not go out again until she is able to be gently handled so I can get her to the vet. I have already warned him that when I get her I will bring her in, but he is going into the cage after her!!! She is a beauty (looks just like Maggie Sue). I haven't given up on her yet. I will win her over one day!!

  14. It is wonderful how much personality comes through in your photos of your cats. Marvelous --- each and every one!
