Frisbees and teeth.

My Border Collie used to love her dog frisbee and caught it all the time. Then I noticed her canine teeth were being worn down and flattened. I stopped the frisbee throwing and the wearing down stopped. I've heard of other dogs having teeth trouble due to frisbees. Any thoughts?

Don't have any thoughts, but my Lab Sadie, was born a retriever, and when I througha a plastic frisbee for her, after awhile, her gums start to bleed! I suggest you buy her a SOFT BITE FLOPPY DISK at your local pet store. It is lime-green along the edging, and is pink in the middle.

Don't have any frisbees, but Daisy loves to catch a ball. I had a hard rubber ball with a little hole and a bell in it. First I found out the ball was too small and she could get it lodged in her throat, then I found out the bell could come out and she could choke on it and then I noticed she had her lip scrapped and I believe it was from catching the hard rubber ball. Needless to say I threw those kinds of balls away and now she catches soft plush ones and she loves it and it works great.

Interestingly, I tried both of these things. My dog lost interest in the pink and green soft frisbee after she discovered how erratic the hard rubber ball was. I was worried about the bell inside, so I removed it before we played. That's the toy she uses now to play catch with. I just try to be sure she doesn't catch it straight out without bouncing first in order to protect her teeth and mouth. I think she enjoys running after it as much as she likes catching the ball! Our family's German Shepherd now has no teeth, they weren't pulled out they were worn down flat. This is due to 8 years of carting logs, rocks bigger then her head and anything else she could pick up. The vet has said as long as she is not in any pain and can eat she will be alright. We tried to stop her from doing this by buying her all the toys and balls in the world but it was impossible to make her leave the rocks alone, the only way to do it was to keep her tied up and we didn't want to do that. She is not happy unless she is running around with a rock in her mouth.

We now sofen her food and feed her soft treats she happy so thats all that matters

My GSD Shiloh just loves the soft frisbee!! She used to chew up the plastic ones! She won it last year at a Petstock gathering for winning the longest "stay"!!!! Good girl, Shiloh! Didn't think she would do it!

Hehe you go dog! Way to go Shiloh! Daisy can't stay for the life of her. Despite the stereotypes on those droopy Basset girls, she doesn't like to sit still!

My lab loves frisbee too, but I found the hard ones rubbed the skin off her lips when she would catch them mid air. Time and time of that and she was raw. I immediately swithced to the soft ones and now all she has are scars from the hard ones but still can play in comfort. Softees are the way to go right from the beginning.
