We're getting a new cat!!!!:D( I have some questions)

I'm so happy!!!! Well, this afternoon me and my dad are going to PetSmart to look at the kitties We're going to get a new cat from there or a shelter. So we're going to adopt one instead of buying from a breeder. I can't wait to go! I think we're going to get a male, since Blueberry's a boy too. I think we're going to get a smaller one, so Blueberry could take care of it(maybe )

I just have a few questions:
Do we need another carrier?
Do we need another litter box?
Do we need seperate food and water dishes?

I have many questions, I'm so excited! It feels like when we were first getting Blueberry, I had all these questions.
But I just hope that they'll get along.

Yes, another carrier. Every animal should have their own carrier.

Yes, another litter box, Vets will tell you 1 litter box for every kitty plus extra one. Two litter boxes work ok for 2 pets.

Yes, food... if the new guy is a kitten he will need food made for kittens. Their tummys can't handle adult cat food.

Yes, water dish. Never can have enough of them around for guys to get a drink.

PetSmart great choice to look for pets, Kinda partial we got Thumper there

Yes to the separate carrier, litter box and food. Good luck on keeping them out of each other's food, though. Although my two are grown, they are on different diets, but they keep eating out of each other's bowls, even though the bowls are in different rooms. I just don't let them get too much of the "wrong" food.

Just know that it may not be love at first sight; it can take time for cats to acclimate to each other. Keep them separated at first and let them get each other's scent. Cats are all about smell.

How excited you must be!!!!!! Everyone has already said the stuff I would say.....I will just re-emphasize the introductory period. Taking it slow, even up to one week, is better...even though your patience will be tested. You don't want Blueberry to feel ousted by the younger kitty. Blueberry is STILL the head of house.

I am so very happy to hear that you are getting another kitty. A boy is going to be a good choice, I think. A smaller one will seem less threatening to Blueberry, but a bigger/older one can successfuly be introduced also. Just look at their personality traits and you will know which one is meant for you.
I would definitely get a 2nd carrier. You never know when they might have to travel at the same time and confining 2 to one carrier is not a terribly good idea.
A 2nd and possibly even a 3rd litter box is also in order. Separate food dishes is also preferrable as they may not wish to eat together especially at first.
Make your introductions SLOWLY!!!! if you rush it, you might experience problems. And first impressions are lasting. And trust me, it might take longer than a week, but the wait will be worth it in the end.
Be prepared to keep new kitty by himself at first. It is more comforting for the newbie to have a single small room to get used to before an entire big house, new people and other pets all at the same time.
And most importantly.........KEEP US POSTED !!!! we want to see and hear everything!

Well, we went to PetSmart, and we decided that we'll be getting a female instead. The person said that 2 males wouldn't be a very good idea, since Blueberry's a Himmy and Himmies are more laid back. A dsh male might be too much for him
So...we're getting an orangie An orange tabby I think. I know that its rare for there to be an orange that's not a male, but they have one coming on Saturday. Well, she said there's a big chance that one is coming.
I can't wait!!! When adopting from Petsmart, do we take home the kitty right away? Or do we have to wait a week or more?

oh yeah, and she's about 10 weeks old I hope the introductions go well, since she's going to be so much smaller that Blueberry.

Don't let anyone talk you out of a male, though, IF you find one you like. My males get along fabulously! It is my females that have problems getting along.....

Our PetSmart now has their adoptions though the local shelter and rescue group.

At time we got Thumper, she came from local shelter. We went over there when they re-opened from Thanksgiving holiday, filled out paper work, paid for her and got papers to go back to PetSmart and pick her up.

It appears the rescue group handles all paper work there at the store for their animals that are adopted through the store.

More than likely you'll have to go somewhere (like local shelter) and have paper worked processed and come back and pick your furry guy up. I would go to PetSmart early in the day because some shelters close early on weekends.

As far as male/female issue. It's the temperment of the little guy and girl. People who take in the animals know allot more than the clerks at a store about the animals being adopted out. They get to roam the room they are in when it's not adopation day, they watch the animals play and interact. What helps if the animal was given up by owner they can provide good information at time of surrendering.

Stand back and observe all the furry gals and guys will melt your heart.
