Saint in need of perm home

Hello everyone, I'm new to Pet Talk, but have been observing for sometime. I recently helped to rescue a very sickly Saint Bernard and with the help of Saint Bernard Rescue of Florida I am fostering him till he can find a permanent home. He is looking much better now after 2 1/2 weeks and has quite the personality! He is very sweet, and even housebroken. He gets along well with my 2 dogs, in spite of the fact that my male did not make it easy for him. He went to his first Doggie Park outing Sunday and really enjoyed it. He did well, even though I was a freak the whole time. He needs a loving forever home, and would do well in a home with another large dog to play with. I have attached a photo. We are in Central Florida - if you know of anyone they can contact Sandra at Saint Bernard Rescue of Florida:561-736-6671. It would need to be a good home, he has been through so much already!
    Thanks

Thanks. He's a real sweety, you really have to meet him to appreciate the great diposition he has. He went over really well at the doggie park-everyone loved him. I'm trying to get him out to meet people so they can see what a wonderful dog he is. Any tips? This is my first foster.

I'm far away, and at my maximum (we just adopted our 4th dog a couple of weeks ago!!), but I know we have a few Floridians here on Pet Talk--I sure hope someone can help--you've come to the right place to start!!
Please stick around and tell us about your other dogs!!

Hi beautiful boy! He does look like a sweetheart. Having rescued my first Saint in April, I can attest to the sweet loving, gentle nature of them!

Saints DO NOT need a lot of room, like some other larger breed doggies do. Their style is alot more laid back. So, don't let tiny yards deter you. Saints DO prefer the company of people, and don't, IMO, make good 'yard' dogs. Saints DO drool, but, it is liveable/manageable. Saints DO eat alot more than some other doggies, but, generally at the 2 year mark, go back to 4 cups of food a day (which seems average for large breed dogs).

Good luck in finding a forever home for him. The adoptive parents will not regret the decision!

How is "Binx" with your cats? This boy is suddenly showing lots of interest in my cat, and she is not liking it! He chases her and corners her - then barks at her. Tyr, my male-gets very protective of his kitty and then lets Beau, the Saint know he doesn't like what he is doing to his kitty and it becomes a disaster! I end up having to seperate them till bedtime when Prissy, my cat and Tyr come to bed with me and Beau stays in the living room with Ginger my other dog who is also a rescue and still being crated.
Not sure what else I can do.

Hmm - I bet if kitty gives him one good nose-scratch (which would be a mess for you, but not so serious as to require vet attention) it'll cure him. Does Scolding him work? Most Saints are sooo sensitive to people that you being angry is the worst thing ever! How about holding the kitty near him, petting the kitty then him, and saying "nice kitty, good kitty, nice doggie, good doggie" in a soothing voice?

Why don't you Jay a call @ Dogs and Cats Forever....
She always keeps a list of fostered purbreds in the area...so if they get a call, they would refer the potential adopter to your organization...

Actually he has several scratches on his nose from her and he doesn't seem to care in the least.
I have tried scolding him and even pulling him away - but I can't budge him ( he has 30 lbs on me)
As far as holding her in front of him -well I tried that-he is like mesmerized by her and completely deaf when she is there-She growls and scratches and spits - he just stands there staring at her-then gets excited and starts barking at her. He hasn't actually tried to hurt her or even seems like he will-he just won't leave her alone. I'm at a loss!

    Update on Saint

Well, we had a rough week. Beauregard decided he didn't like being inside the house alone while I was at work and busted through the front door. He and my male were able to get through and out to the yard. When I came home and opened the front gate, unsuspecting, they bolted through and what a mess.
Anyway my landlord is not happy-I've had to put a board in front of the door, and St.Bernard Rescue has been looking for another foster home.
As of this morning he is being kenneled till we get another foster home. St.Bernard Rescue is unsure if he will be adoptable due to his abandonment issues. Poor Beau!
If anyone can help-please contact Sandra. He needs a good foster home or permanent home, with someone with patience and a solid house.
